Confused
Hello,
Pardon my lack of knowledge but I am not sure what exactly this app does. I was confused by the description in the App store. Is it supposed to read all of a document, or just a few words? Is reading even one of its features? Can you please clarify my confusion?
Thanks
Voice Cam
Hello Maria,
Voice Cam is useful to read words but it doesn't read numbers and special characters. It's an app that doesn't need to get photo to examine words because it works in single step, in realtime (you need to move slowly so that you can identify each word).
This App detects in realtime English words and Number Words button says number words detected.
It's very difficult reads a whole page of book because there are not information about page margin.Fancy fonts are not recognized but only classic font (Arial,Verdana and others). A good illumination it's important for a good detection.
Great
I understand. Thanks for the clarification. I will try it out and give you feedback if need be.
Feedback Based on Description
Hello Gian,
I haven't tried it out, but based on the description, I would like to point some of the use cases and future direction for your app, if you don't mind.
- Use Case: for reading LCD displays that are present in almost every gadget today.
If this app does recognize words in realtime, this would make reading displays much easier and faster.
- Future Direction: For this you may have to focus on fonts used in such displays, and number recognition.
- Use Case: reading signs while walking by. For users who can point the camera in the general direction of a printed or electronic sign, this app would be very helpful.
- Future Direction: Fast recognition, but since I haven't tried it, it may already be. Also, the possibility of keeping the app opened to monitor a particular display/ sign.
Thanks for such an app, I was looking forward for something like this.
As I already pointed out, realtime recognition of words could be far more useful than static recognition performed by KNFBReader in some circumstances.
Thanks
Thanks to you Maria
Thanks for suggestions
Hello Reckless Player,
feedback and suggestions are always welcome.
If you point the camera Voice Cam reads LCD displays or computer's screen and it identifies words easier and faster, you need only point the camera toward the english text. When the App recognizes one or more words plays a sound and a voice guidance says, in realtime, where is the text (left, right, top right, top left, bottom left, bottom right, center). When you want read text you can only press Read Start/Stop button for start reading faster, because Voice Cam, no photos needed to process the text.
The Camera controls every istant if there are new words, so, it's important move the device slowly when words are detected. For fancy fonts and number recognition, I'll think in the future because now my effort is principally for app optimization.
Reading signs while walking by, it could be useful develop a different App because text's recognition in realtime it's too expensive for mobile devices and so, add an other types of detection,I think that the App, may become slow.
Thanks for your suggestions.
