a couple of navigon questions

Hi all,
I purchased Navigon the other day and just love the heck out of it. I just had a couple of questions:
When I’m in the car, I like to know what street I’m travelling on and what intersections are coming up. Is there a mode that I can set Navigon to which will announce these?
Also, if I want to plot directions from one city to another, can I do this? For instance, I’m trying to plot directions from San diego to West Hollywood but I live in Seattle and the only way to plot directions from what I’m seeing is from your current location to a specified address.

Navigon, as far as I know, doesn't provide a mode where intersections in front of you in the direction of travel are listed. I think you can see your current street during navigation at the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, Navigon does not include automatic announcement of the current street or approaching intersections. VoiceOver might speak when the street name at the bottom changes, but I don't think it does.

To enter a route with a custom start point, go to the "more" tab on the main menu screen and select "route", then you can build up your route using the buttons on that screen. It should be straight forward since the buttons are well labeled. Let me know if you need more specific instructions.

Do you have to double tap on main menu to see what street you are currently on?

Yes, if the main menu is currently showing, you do need to double tap to get to the street name. However, I should point out that for a VoiceOver user, Navigon is best suited for route navigation rather than current location and exploration. I just found out with a short walk that VoiceOver doesn't automatically read the street name when it changes, you have to touch it to hear the street name.

If you want to know where you are and which intersection you're approaching, you would do better with a different app. You could try the builtin Maps app with tracking set to "on with heading" if you don't want to buy another app. As for a 3rd party app better suited for the kind of navigation most useful to VO users, I don't know what they are, only that they exist.

Much obliged, this is quite helpful.

The app isn't free but BlindSquare will do what you want quite nicely.

I have both BlindSquare and Navigon; for me, they serve different purposes.

Hi, you can tap on the 'More' tab at the bottom right of the app, then 'Direct Help', from the top of the app, flick right and you should hear 'Your current Location', one more flick will land on the current address, distance and direction from nearest cross street and coordinates. This info continuously refreshes but Voiceover does not automatically announce it as it changes, at least I think it doesn't, but you can flick left or right and flick back to hear the new location, if different.

Thanks, I will try this.
