Hello everyone. I am considering purchasing an Apple TV. I saw somewhere online that it would only work with TV's with either 720 or 1080 pixles. Is this true, or will it also work with other HDtv's? Are these numbers,just the ones that give you the best picture? I have one TV that it should work with, but I'm not sure about the other two and I want to be able to move it around from room to room. Also, I saw that there are 3 generations of Apple Tv's, but it also looked like there were different models within each generation. So, what is the most current generation and model that has the updated software. I looked on the Apple website, and all my questions were answered accept these two. Also, any other information that you feel is helpful would be greatly appreciated. Also, to those of you who own these, are they worth buying? Thanks!!

The most up to date apple tv is the 3rd generation.
If you buy one new, you will get the latest one.
There was a slight change in the hardware used in the 3rd generation apple tv sometime in 2012 I believe, however any of them you buy now will all be the same.
I have had my apple tv for about a year, having gotten it for Christmas last year. I love it and use it every day. The accessibility is solid, and voiceover can be turned on right out of the box.
As far as software goes, you can update the apple tv just by using the remote. Better yet, turn on auto update and it will keep itself updated without any intervention from you.

You can now airplay to the latest generation without the need of the iDevice connecting to the same Wi-Fi network.
Lastly, FYI, This is not a very common knowledge, you can also use any third party remote to control your Apple Tv. You can use your TV remote to
control your Apple TV, so you can control your Apple Tv and TV with one remote. All you have to do is train your Tv remote to work with Apple TV.

First of all, I have been using my AppleTV for about 18 months now and can't imagine being without it. As another commenter said, it has solid accessibility. It's nice to be able to search for something and have the annotation read to me. As usual, Apple has hit the mark again with regard to accessibility.
One thing to be considered here is that maybe you should wait until sometime in 2015 when the newest one is supposed to be released. I think it is supposed to have even more features in it. If you can't wait for your new toy, however, I wholeheartedly recommend the third generation version.
Finally, the AppleTV needs the HDMI port on your TV for hook up. I don't know specifically about the number of pixils but I do know that the TV must be HDMI compliant in order to work with the AppleTV.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the advice. Is Apple currently selling just the 3rd generation? Also, I know that for the Apple TV to work, you must have an HD TV that is HDMI compatible, but I thought I read somewhere that it also had to be either a 720 pixle or a 1080 pixle. Does anyone know if this is accurate?
