The unlabelled buttons in the list view of stations are used to select which stream you want when the station has more than one.

As VoiceOver gives you no feedback on what the choices are, this is very much a lucky dip.

The developer has been contacted, so hopefully this will be addressed in a future update.

A friend of mine used tune in radio and clicked on a button called speaker-high. When she did, it disabled voice over and she had to totally restore her ipod before it worked again. Even then, voice over sounded funny. So whatever you do, do not doubletap that button!

By Kevan on Thursday, March 22, 2012 - 02:13

That "certain "speaker high" button" is a mute button, to get sound back all you have to do is raise the volume. She went through way, way way way too much trouble. And people, you may use that button, just remember that it lowers down the volume completely.

Kevan, watch it. Some people do not know everything about everything, you know. No need to be rude in your comments. But yes, that is a mute button. Double tap it, it'll mute. Double tap it again to get the volume back. Or as Kevan said, just use the volume buttons.
Hello everyone. I got scared with the speaker high button some time ago but didn't feel lead to share my experience because for me, the problem was over as quickly as it began. My iDevice is the iPhone 3GS. What I discovered is the speaker high button is very simply a mute button and what they do to accomplish the mute is slam all the volumes to zero. The fix was rather easy for me both when I had the trouble by accident some weeks ago and when I did it on purpose just now to see if I remembered what happened right before posting this. I simply pressed and held the volume up button on my device for a couple of seconds and all was right with the world again. In my test just now, I did two things. First, I hit speaker high while a stream was playing. It all went silent as I thought it might. I hit volume up and the stream and VoiceOver came back. Second, I stopped the stream and hit speaker high again. Of course, Voiceover stopped as expected. I pressed and held volume up for a short time, did a VoiceOver gesture and it worked just fine. All of that said, I completely understand how this speaker high button could scare the devil out of anyone. It's not a big leap to at least assume that if you double-tap a mute like button after you mute that it will unmute. This particular button however, does not behave that way so before you restore your device after hitting speaker high, try turning up the volume first. Finally, I have sent an email to the developer recommending they relabel the speaker high button to mute and explained the trouble mentioned in the previous comment.
I used to find this app fully accessible but after an update a few months ago, voice over no longer acknowledges the clock where you set the alarm timer... its just like it doesn't exist although my sighted boyfriend said that it is in fact there on the screen. I tried downloading iRadio as an alternative, and found that the app is tune in radio but with a different name and therefore has the same problem...
updated on Oct 07/ 2013 version 4.3 since not changes as the last version personally for me still works fine voiceOver reads more of the text not to say everything, and easy to use I have worked few hours I updated last night and works good I have using iPhone 5S running iOS7.02 What's New in Version 4.3 We've fixed some bugs to improve your TuneIn Radio experience
Hi. You should contact the devs and explain that you can no longer search with vo and ask them to fix it.
Just use your email program of choice and send an email to support@tunein.com. No forms required.

If your biggest love is the radio portion, you should give Shoutcast a try. It's free, and the number of radio stations available is vast!!! Sometimes, when you start a station, an ad might pop up, but tapping the screen twice with two fingers like you would to start or stop music will skip the ad. Just a thought.

By Mike Freeman on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 - 02:13

One more thought: the radio database in the new Victor Reader stream uses the ooTunes database.

By sockhopsinger on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 - 02:13

Shoutcast is great, and so is Tunein for sporting events, but ooTunes is the one radio app that I keep going back to. In fact, it is the first app I ever bought when I first got my iPhone. While it is not updated much, if at all, on the front end, the database of stations is, in my opinion, second to none.

Agreed. I love the fact that the developer will add stations if you ask him to, and within hours or sometimes even minutes of sending the request.

It's too bad they had to remove the xm stations though which really sucks, but maybe that was in agreement with xm radio or something. I really don't know.

Take care and be blessed.

By Toonhead on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 - 02:13

Oh definitely shell out a few bucks and buy yourself oo tunes. You will be extremely glad you did. The app is 100% accessible, and the developer is very approachable through email if you have any questions or want stations to be added. Go for it you won't be sorry.

By peter on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 - 02:13

I don't understand why the mute button mutes "all" sounds. The developer should be able to make the Mute button silence only the audio coming out of the TuneIn Radio app and not the speech coming from VoiceOver (as other apps do).

also, I wonder how atune to accessibility the TuneIn Radio developers really are. The ability for VoiceOver users to be able to set alarms has not been accessible for a very long time through numerous version releases. Folks have commented on this accessibility issue for a long time, yet it hasn't been resolved.

too bad, because overall, the app is very good and otherwise fairly useable.

Gene:

You may not like what's happening to IE or any other particular browser, for that matter. But if you want the best access, you're going to have to upgrade because, wonder of wonders, the web world consists both of you and of web developers. I know many site -- particularly in the business world -- that no longer support IE 8 and below.

Soin the end, it's your choice: miss out on content or upgrade and put up with thefrustrations.

Welcome to the real world!

By Mike Freeman on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 - 02:13

I haven't looked at the site recently but I haven't had any problems with it.

My biggest complaint with this app for now are the number of stations that are listed but are not streaming. This is especially true for countries outside the U.S. For example, I could not get any of the stations in the Phillipeens to play on this app.

By KE7ZUM on Sunday, November 22, 2015 - 02:13

Thought it was region specific? Not sure. If it is that might be why.

Some clear Channel stations do not stream because of IHEART radio. Clear channel doesn't allow there stations to be played through tunein on the mobile side. On the computer side or my sonos system they do allow this. Basically if your station doesn't play it is do to lisencing on the mobile side also if you reside outside of the country it may not allow you to listen either. This is set up by the station not tunein

By sockhopsinger on Sunday, November 22, 2015 - 02:13

This app is listed in the Applevis directory as being "fully accessible with Voiceover and is easy to navigate and use." However, last time I tried to use this app, I found it anything but when it comes to selecting channels. Have they released recent updates making it more user friendly? Thanks for any feedback.

The latest updated did fixed the problem I have no problem using the app. The accessibility it's back and the NFL now onTuneIn premium I'am very happy about that too.

By Joe on Sunday, November 22, 2015 - 02:13

The app just coppies the website as far as stations go. I get your point, but I think it's because you can actually stream clearchannel stations on the computer from tunein just not on the Iphone. It's not perfect but once you learn what stations are clear channel you can figure things out pretty easy.

It's not perfect nothing is perfect anyway. I'm not complaining though I love the app. TuneIn is the best radio app anyway that's just my oppinion.

By Joe on Sunday, November 22, 2015 - 02:13

I do agree. I love the functions it allows. One of my most used apps. I love that trending option.

By KE7ZUM on Sunday, November 22, 2015 - 02:13

I quit using tune in as I don't even listen to music anymore and I mean no music anymore. That might or might not change if I ever get board, but yeah. There's no vallue in radio anymore as far as I can sede.

What's New in Version 9.8

- Version 9.8 features a new design for Home with recommendations and top content on TuneIn.
- Station, show, and event pages have a brand new look, too!
- Your profile has been redesigned as well, making finding the stations you follow easier than ever.
- Program pages will remember which episodes you've listened to and show progress indicators.
- We've also improved the VoiceOver accessibility across the app, and added localizations to Car Mode.

By Deb on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 - 02:13

Several of the stations I've been following are no longer available with Tunein so they've recommended others, some of which I don't like. When I go to Edit My Profile, I can't find a way to delete stations listed. Is this an accessibility issue, or am I just doing something wrong? It seems to me I was able to do this before. I haven't listened in a while, so maybe I've just forgotten what to do!

By Misty Dawn on Sunday, January 22, 2023 - 02:13

In the latest update to the Tunein interface, I now see no way to share a station you’re listening to? Anyone else. If it’s still there, how do I access it?

By Misty Dawn on Sunday, January 22, 2023 - 02:13

OK, so, it appears that the Share option has re-appeared. However, half the time, with VoiceOver, I can’t access it. Any work-arounds/ways to do this?
