Hi, I hope this is with in applevis guidelines. I can't get hand off with phone calls to work. I have new IPhone 6 and IPod 5th ten. I have bluetooth/wifi on both, connected to same network. Hand off is on FaceTime is on and cellular thing in FaceTime is on where it says allow to make calls from IPhone. However, I see no phone icon when I'm talking to someone on my iPod. The only app I can get to work with hand off is Safari. I thought being able to hand call to Pod would be useful if my phone was dying or something. Does anyone know what I"m doing wrong? These are all the things it says to do online and I am doing them. I also can't find anything in the app switch using VO. It doesn't read anything about phone. Thanks, Sarah A.

Didn't I read that this wasn't working correctly yet?

Hi. Yes as long as both devices are running iOS 8 it will work. It does not work on osx yet and maybe you read it does not work on osx and got that mixed up and thought you read it does not work on iOS. I do not have iOS 8 so I do not know all about how it works, but there is a podcast about it on this site.

If that's the David Woodbridge podcast, I have listened to that. He doesn't make phone calls. When people call me my phone rings and my iPod rings and says FaceTime and the persons number, I haven't tried answering front he Pod yet. However, if I try to go into FaceTime and make a call it says using iPhone then call from iPhone failed. I have cellar on in FaceTime on both devices connected to same wifi. Also, when I'm on the phone, I still see no option to hand the call Im on to my Pod. Thanks Sarah A.

Hello Sarah I hope this finds you well. Like you I've struggled with this here's my solution. I have yet to get it to go for example if I start a call from my iPhone I cannot transfer to my iPad. However that being said if I start the call on my iPad I can transfer to my iPhone. Here is what I did to do so because I got the same error message. Go into settings for face time and turn off use celular to make FaceTime calls once on restart both your iPhone and iPod make sure to do the setting on both. Just doing the cycle seem to help me. going to face time and she was a number you know is a landline or cell phone and make the call.

Hi, I turned off cellular in FaceTime settings on iPhone. powered off. Turned it off in IPod. Powered off. Turned IPhone back on turned setting back on did same with Pod and it's still a no go. I don't get how I have these odd problems. If I switch my braille input mode to anything other than UEB uncontracted 6 dot I get no feedback what's soever. Guess I just have odd luck. Sounds like a cool feature though the phone thing. Would be nice to type in contracted braille too. Hopefully these are just apple bugs. Not sure.

Hi Sarah,

I haven't been able to try this myself yet because only one of my iOS devices is on iOS 8, however, there are some limitations to this feature that you should be aware of.

1. When you make a call from an iPod you are actually using your iPhone to place the call. The iPod will connect to your phone via WiFi/Bluetooth and the call audio is thereby transmitted in both directions between the devices. Therefore, if the battery of your iPhone dies, making and receiving calls from your iPod would be impossible.

2. For this feature to work, your iPhone and your iPod must be relatively close to each other and maybe even connected to the same WiFi network (not sure about this).

Regards!

Hello, part is not true the devices do not have to be very close together as I was at my moms house and I left my phone, at my house because the houses are very close together. And I have my iPad at the house I was able to answer a call from my iPad that was coming in on my phone which was still in my house. However the handoff teacher I don't think works completely yet I think that there should be a button that you should deal with the heat within FaceTime, that allows you to hang the call back over to your iPhone or vice versa.

I couldn't get it to work despite having setting it up properly. I was on the same wifi network, both devices are running IOS 8 and celluar calls were enabled in facetime on both devices.
the two devices were even sitting side by side. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Hello, both I devices have to be signed into the same Apple ID in order for that to work. They do not have to be sitting next to each other or anything like that as I explained above.

Hi all,
Handoff doesn't work, but continuity does work. for example, my mother called me and both my IPad/iPhone rang and when I answered from my iPad it placed the iPad on speaker phone. that is totally amazing! but sadly, handoff doesn't seam to work. I turned off and on handoff on both devices, and it is connected on the same apple id. am I doing something rong?

Yes, they are both logged in with the same iCloud account.

No, I don't think this feature is fully functioning yet. And two the other gym, I believe that you might want to make sure that your Internet is fully working cause I know when my device, is what if my cable Internet's down it's not going to ring on my iPad point-blank. So you might want to make sure that your Internet is working. I hope this helps you, and hopefully it does.
