voice over decomposing and becoming fragmented

I am a complete newby at using message boards and the like, so I'm probably doing something wrong; I apologize in advance. By way of an introduction, I'll simply say that I'm *totally* in love with my iPhone and Apple for what they've done. It's not at all an overstatement to call it revolutionary. But my question concerns a slight glitch with voice over. The voice has become decomposed/fragmented-it's sort of breaking down. I've tried rebooting by leaving it off over night, turning VO off and back on, etc, but nothing is working. It actually happened with a previous iPhone and I took it in and they replaced it. I'm feeling particularly unlucky, for it has happened to me for the second time and I know several others with IPhones who have never had the issue. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

Some how my "use compact voice" got turned off. I surely didn't do it because I didn't even know what that was until I ran across it just now while reading some other posts. So thank you! This is going to prove to be a great resource! As I said in my earlier ppost, I'm in love with my iPhone and I only just downloaded my first app last week, this, after having had the phone for six months:). I downloaded "musicdoc." You can imagine my excitement when I discovered that Apple had made it possible to completely access Siriuis/XM, given that the company's own app is entirely inaccessible. I could hardly believe it. I realize that I sound like an excited child with a new toy, which speaks to Apple's feat with VO, for I'm generally a pretty serious guy who's not at all easily impressed or excitable, particularly when it comes to technology.
