If I had to guess, I would say that this probably has something to do with licensing restrictions, but I would have to agree with you on this. The BARD mobile app is great, but books aren't even backed up when the device is backed up in iTunes, which I think is ridiculous.
I think it would not be so complicated to have a copy of the bookmarks in all your books sync through iCloud like downcast does it for the podcast feeds. Bookmarks are just very small files that have position information if you could keep all your bookmarks you would be able to return to previous points in your book that you're reading.
Good point how ever I don't think bard will do this. Remember it took them for ever to get th eapp out and they almost did not as they did not have it in the world, pls they also almost even did not get the site up as their fundign had been cut.
