I believe I may have turned on the flashlight function from within the Control Center on my iPhone 5. Is there a positive way of determining its state? The Control Center function is simply a button with no indication of its status. My battery life seems to be diminishing rapidly, but this could be a function of an old battery. Does rebooting the phone shut off the flashlight if it is on?
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks.

The Key is "Selected"
On my iPhone5, with iOS7.1.2, the key is the word "selected". When off, the flashlight button in the Control Center just says "flashlight". When on, though, VO reports "selected, flashlight, button" instead. So, it seems that if you hear "selected", the light is on, otherwise it is off.
iPhone 5 Battery Issue
You mentioned that your iPhone battery was draining fast. I just read a news article that said Apple was replacing some defective batteries in IPhone 5 models. You may want to contact Apple and provide them with your phone's serial number to see if you are eligible for the free battery replacement.
