Deleting Documents and Data from an iPhone without removing the associated apps when syncing with iTunes

Hi all,
I have about 500 megs of documents and data that I'd like to get rid of on my iPhone. I'd like to do so without deleting the associated apps from my iPhone when syncing it with my mac. Is there a way to do this?
I'm not sure if this would be the cure, so take this with a grain of salt. Delete the associated app. When you do this, it will ask you if you really want to do this. Deleting the app will also delete all associated data. Go ahead and do it, and then redownload the application. Again, it's just a thought, so do it at your own risk unless more knowledgeable users confirm the validity of my idea.
Hello, in my opinion its not worth it.
To provide an example and I'm aware that this may not be the best to demonstrate with. I have recently deleted the Facebook app from my iphone it having grown up to the file size of 250MB give or take a few more megs. Well, since downloading it again sure enough the file size was reduced from the previous figure but from my last download of the app, and I have actually only done this once it has now shot up to a whopping 334MB I know this isn't as big as your 500MB with documents but my advice would be: just let things take there corse and only delete stuff when you are seriously low on storage. Otherwise, as in my example which I hopefully have made clear, the file sizes are only gonna get big again which would make the process of re-downloading them again more of an hindrance than a help.
This has only been my experience, so please take this for what's its worth.
Facebook is a continuously growing bunch of data, but, as an example, the BARD application from the NLS or other book downloading and retrieving app would not be the same kind. I would figure that the reason that a Facebook app would grow would be due to incoming data, as in an Email app's inbox. If you were to delete the Email app and all of it's data, then reinstall the Email app, the inbox would be empty, which is what he wanted to accomplish.
Yeah, true. I probably could delete all apps from my phone and start fresh. that might help. I've also considered the possibility of just resetting to complete factory settings and syncing with iTunes.
