My sister and I have decided to get a new iPad, for media consumption and to have something more supported than an iPod. Our ISP has included some mobile internet in the package we have that we haven't been using since our phones have internet access already, but we could finally put it to use with this iPad so it fell on getting the cellular version that we'll probably have in a few days. Now my question: I know that with an iPhone to activate it, you need a supported sim inserted into it, which obviously isn't the case with an iPod touch, or a wi-fi only iPad since they don't have a 3G modem. How's it with the Cellular iPad? Can I activate it without a sim? I'm not sure how long we'll have to wait for our ISP to issue us a sim for this internet access, and the fact we need a nanosim will probably delay it even more.

No you can not activate cell data with a iPad that is using 3g with out a sim.
I wasn't referring to the
I wasn't referring to the data, that's quite obvious. I was just referring to general activation of the device, IE when you turn it on for the first time it has to be activated with Apple. Either way I have googled around and seems that no, you can activate a 3G iPad just fine without a SIM inserted. Hope it helps anyone who comes across this topic later.
