VoiceOver won't speak after coming back from Standby mode

Hi,

This is making me crazy. Sometimes after turning down my MacBook screen, or pressing Command plus Option plus eject and waking the device, VoiceOver keeps silent. I have set that after the computer wakes up it prompts for the password. But VO won't read anything. I know it is still active, but turning it off and back on doesn't help. The only thing I found to fix it is restarting.
Does anyone how can I force VoiceOver to reset? Maybe it is a synthesizer issue, I don't know.

Has anyone experienced this?

I have a late 2009 white MacBook.

Thanks

Hi. I'm new to OSX but already I have experienced the issue you speak of. I have a 2014 MacBook air 11 inch and if I shut the screen with Acapela Peter running, VoiceOver will not speak when I lift the lid, most of the time.
Occasionally it will grace me with it's presence, but most of the time I must login and then restart the machine before speech will return. If I lift the lid with Karen which is my usual voice, never ever a problem.
Are you using Acapela voices as well? If so, perhaps we should write to them and explain the issues we face, and see if they can come out with a fix for this problem.

Yes, I'm using the Spanish voice Antonio. I could use either Jorge or Monica, but the Acapela voices have better quality

I use Rosa, and I have the problem. In my case, if I wait approximately 30 seconds, VoiceOver starts talking again. This problem doesn't happens always, but I have noticed that for example, if I open iTunes, after closing it, I always have the problem. Now I try to use iTunes as minimum as I can, and if I have to use it, I reboot after closing iTunes.
I have noticed that Rosa have some problems since the last upgrade. Some of them were corrected with the minor update, but not all of them.

Funny. I have none of these problems of which all of you speak. Voice over is very responsive. I'm thinkign all of this is befause apple modified the way things start up from staned by or boot. Everything now starts up at once instead of beeing deleyed for x number of miliseconds or what not.

Tc.

I've been having this problem a few times with 10.9.3, but never had it before then

I had this problem very frequentlyon Mountain lion using Alex. It seems to have happened less frequently with Mavericks, but I still occasionally get it. Yes, I have found that re starting is the only way to go.

Hi, are you sure the problem is VO? Do you get any sound at all out of the machine after wake-up? Having no sound after coming back from sleep mode is a common problem - you find lots of threads on this topic and it is not VO related. I used to have the same issue with my MBA late 2013 but it is solved since OS X 10.9.2.

and you still have the problem? How odd as everythign works pretty good on my ene and I'm running an mb air that was released in april of this year. IN fact I just brougth my computr out of sleep mode and was up in about 5 seconds.

I just installed the update of Infovox Ivox that was released yesterday, and it seem that the problem is solved. It is one of the issues corrected in the new version. After updating Infovox ivox, you have to download the new version of the voices that you own.

Cool, I've just updated it. Let's see how it works in the next few days. Thanks for telling.
