question about mac battery

Hello,
I have a question about my mac book air, mid 2013 model. Everytime I take it off charge, or everytime I start it for that matter, it tells me "calculating time remaining". Is there a way for me to make it actually tell me the battery level when I go to the menulet? It eventually gets to it, but it's a long wait. thx

Hi. I have experienced the same thing. I find that if I wait about a minute after waking up my Mac Book Air or taking it off charge, then I can check the battery level and it will be correct. I don't know if there's another solution.

hi. From what I can tell, this is happening on all mac laptops. It has to compute the battery percentage, and probably a lot of different variables. I'm not exactly sure however.

Unfortunately, you do have to wait for the menulet to display information. It's not just calculating battery percentages, it's looking at how much power your apps are using, among other things. It's a relatively small wait compared to how much battery life you'll get out of the machine, for sure. ;)

hi. yes, just wait a while. this is true even of a windows computer. it does take a little bit to figure out lifetimes.

I use a script for reading the battery status. I use the VO keyboard commander to assign a keyboard shortcut for it, in my case Right Option+B, and it reads the battery status instantly even while the Mac still is calculating battery usage and more...
Can't guarantee that it gives you a 100 % correct number the first moment after you've started the Mac, but it seems to me like this is pretty correct!
Just head over to http://macfortheblind.com/freeware-and-downloads
and go down to where it says "An Apple Script for Speaking Battery Status", and there you vwill find the download and a brief description on what to do with it!
Hope this might help! :)
