Can you elaborate a bit? Command-backspace is an OS X command, which will work in any edit field that properly supports the OS X text input system. Put simply, it is up to the developer of an app to decide to use it or not. What other keystrokes are you finding to not work across apps, and are they normally system-wide ones?
Back space key does not exist on macs, insteade the key is delete ... and, by the way, for me cmd + del will put stuff in the trash ... wwhat it does in edit fields?

I am not having this problem some one who I was helping move her remove files from her downloads folder had this problem wheir every time she would try to move things to trash nothing was working.
Cmd-delete erases the current line to the left of the cursor. Honestly, I didn't even think about its use in Finder, sorry for the confusion. I assumed, as the OP asked about the key working across multiple apps, that he was trying to delete text with it and it was not working in some cases.
