macOS and Mac Apps
Hi all, I was Googling to find an alternative to Ninite for the mac as it isn't available and I came across what looks to be a rather cool website. http://getmacapps.com/ Not got a mac so haven't tried it but it could save mac owners a bit of time.

For anybody not quite sure what the Get Mac Apps website is all about, it essentially allows you to choose from a handful of popular free apps and to have them installed automatically on your Mac. Similar to the Ninite service for Windows, you just select the software you want to install. Then, click the "Install these" button and Get Mac Apps generates a code for you to paste into Terminal. Once you’ve done that, the applications should download and install. It’s not for everyone, but some might find it a quick and easy way to load a new Mac with a personalised bundle of applications.

Hi all. I took a look, i didn't install anything but the site is very accessible. They offer, chrome, firefox, one password, drop box, skype adium, and quite a bit more. if I knew how to select text, I'd be hapy to paste the full list.

Ninite isn't dead or wasn't a few months a go. I will be giving this website a try tomorrow I think as it might save me a bit of time. I thought it might be a good site for people who are getting a new mac or just want to try some alternative apps that are out there.

I just had a look at that website and it looks very nice. Ninite is great too. I'm wondering if this other site will let you contact them with app requests? I also assume a separate accessibility page isn't needed since all Macs already come with VoiceOver on them? The only reason I'm saying that is because Ninite has a page of accessible programs.

I don't think so. Applications do not come with voiceoveron them ... this screen reader is parte of the operating system itself and, like any other screen reader ... if the developper of an application does not comply to some standards there is nothing voiceover can do about it. Calibri, one application offered i this website, is notoriously known for not being acessible .. so I think they could setup an accessibility filter on that apps ... and in the meantime those of us who know them might list what of them work well with voiceover on Mac.

They say that they are happy to take requests via twitter. @getmacapps is their twitter handle.
