Hi one of my friends is having problems with the apple mail application on her mac. Every since she has updated to OS 10.9.2 when she opens the mail application it freezes all the time. How do you fix this problem?

  1. Shut down your mac.
  2. hold down cmd r
  3. power on your mac and keep holding down cmd r for about 30 seconds. this boots you in to the recovery console.
  4. turn on voice over
  5. arrow down to the disk utility and vo right to continue
  6. choose your name of your hard drive, for example sarah's mac book pro (I know very original).
  7. make sure first aid tab is selected.
  8. press repair permissions. The progress bar will be at the bottom of the window, but what you could do is wait until the button is not dimmed. This should take about 10 to 15 minutes at the very least. 10 after this is done exit out of the disk utility and hit cmd q to exit out of the recovery console.

  9. restart your mac.

I hope this helps. I usually do this once a month and when updates are released. This actually helped me diagnose a problem last week and I was in need of a restore which I promptly did to get back on the road.

Now we are having another problem voiceover is freezing when she opens mail.

Tha'ts absolutely normal, at least on my mac. Remember mail has to load its data base for it to work, so give it a while I would not worry about it.

What are her specks?
