Update on SITREP accessibility
Hi everyone,
I wanted to give you a quick update on SITREP, because there's some really good news.
Recently, I contacted the developer, Artorias, and described the main VoiceOver issues: the inaccessible world map, the unlabeled buttons, the watchlist that can't be edited, and the sluggish sign-up. To be honest, I expected a generic "thanks, we'll look into it" reply. Instead, the CEO himself answered within a few days. He agreed with every point and openly admitted that the current version on the App Store was built with almost no accessibility work.
The good news: a completely rebuilt version of SITREP is on the way. According to the developer, it will include:
- A "Countries and regions" page listing every country from A to Z under letter headings, so you can use the rotor to jump between letters. Each country is a single button that reads its latest report and opens its feed.
- Labeled tabs and buttons, such as Watchlist, Global feed, Search and Account.
- An accessible watchlist with an "Add a country" field and labeled alert switches.
- A shorter sign-up with labeled fields and spoken error messages.
The new version hasn't been tested with VoiceOver on a real device yet, so I've offered to beta test it via TestFlight. I'll keep you posted once I've had a chance to try it.
One more thing for the AppleVis admins: when I submitted this app, I accidentally marked it as "Free". It's actually free with in-app purchases. Unfortunately, I can't edit that anymore. Could one of you please correct it? Thanks a lot!
