Does anyone like using eloquence in iOS 27?

I just upgraded to iOS 27 when it came out eloquence is behaving oddly but I still use it. Does anyone on here still use eloquence as their primary voice and if you do, do you have the higher sample rate and the community dictionary turned on also are you OK with the weird pauses if you aren’t using eloquence what voice have you switched to? I want some good recommendations in case I change my mind.

Eloquence is my daily driver. I use an iPhone 17 Pro Max with iOS 27

I tried it once when it came out, it sounds bad. I like it in my windows PC with headset, I was expecting the same quality but I was disappointed.

I just updated to 27 on the new IPhone i got and couldn't stand eloquence at all. I switched to Alex, which seems to be the same as before to me. There was way too much distortion, even my wife heard it

Hi,
I’m using Eloquence on my 16 pro max & love it!
I believe I have the community dictionary enabled. I don’t believe I’m using the higher sample rate. I’m just using the default voice.

Using it on my MacBook Air M1. Definitely doesn't sound as good as what it sounds on my android. No idea why, it sounds like it's slightly more underwater sounding I guess I don't even know how to properly describe it but it's fine.

I'm using it on my iPhone 17!

Used it since the first beta in iOS 16 when it came out. It will always be what I use. It just works. Best move apple did.

Same, on an iPhone 16+. If you update to iOS 27.0.1 you may find the volume of VoiceOver, including Eloquence, appears to be fixed. Ah yes, I also use Eloquence on my iPhone SE, third generation.

Since you guys have said that the volume of the synthesizer seems to be fixed on iOS 27 I do plan on at least giving it a try again probably on my iPhone SE 2022. I may not use it full-time, but I do wanna at least see if I like how the new sound. I think it’s pretty cool that it’s available for everybody who wanted it for so many years. I haven’t really liked it yet so far but like I said, I will plan on trying it to 27.

Unless you like your synthesizer to decide how words are spoken too often wrong and just work very strangely and in a poor quality especially with noneEnglish languages, you have very few choices. At least with eloquence you can kill the directionaries something that as far as I am aware stil has not made it to the other synthesizers. When that is said I have a very strange eloquence behavior in Chrome and youtube that really drives me mad. It is however so srange I fear it will only be solved by chance. Apple has support has suggested that the problem is for Google to resolve, but knowing Google it will either never happen or as I said happen by chance/mistake at some time.

I run Eloquence Reed US on my iphone 16pro running Danish as iOS language so I have a danish voice as default voice this cannot be changed default Vo synthesizer language must match the iOS language . So I just add Reed to my rotor and use that instead of the default synth. Works ok there are some bugs Apple never fixes but like others I have learnt to live with that. But nnow after updating to ios 27 and changing to chrome or Youtube eloquence goes back to very slow must speaking rate most likely the 50 pct that is default for all voices when activated.
2 problems here. My regular rate is 65 or 70 I did not ask the rate to be slowed to the 50 or what it is. When I look at speech rate it is still 65 or 70 or what it was set to before I opened Chrome or Youtube. If I change the speech rate or voice inside these apps nothing happens. However if I change speed and move focus to the status bar the new rate is used, and any change will be observed when I close chrome or Youtube.
Well it gets even more strange. If I remove Eloquence Reed and only uses my Danish voice after a restart of VO and even after a restart of tiOS chrome and youtube still uses the strange eloquence now ghost eloquence since it is no longer installed at least in VO.
Changing chrome/youtube language makes no difference. changing iOS language to English makes no difference, maybe I should try changing to US English?
And one more observation Safari works fine even opening the same page in Chrome and Safari Safari works as expected.

I will copy this to it's own post and see if I am the only one haunted in this way.

@Singer Girl if you do use it go into the voice you want as there is a volume button in there. When I tried it the speech was still quiet but I discovered this volume button and using that could turn it up.

Interesting did you find that within the speech settings? I guess I’ll have to check it out once I update. I’ll let you guys know. My favorite eloquence voices are Eddie Sandy and flow. So it’ll probably be one of those, and it will probably most likely be the British eloquence because I prefer that. Seems to be a bit clearer.

Eloquence all the way for me! From the first time I used it when it came to iOS, I didn't realize how much I'd missed it. Every once in a while I'll try switching to a vocalizer voice, or one of the Siri voices, but it's not long till I'm back on Eloquence. It's just easier for me to process while using it. Maybe that's a bit like a sighted person using a different type of display or the 60/90/120 HZ display posts I see on forums.

I turn the normal dictionary off and the community one on, but I don't like the higher sample rate. To me, these settings sound no different from the last time I used JAWS for work in 2024 and connected my AirPods Pro to my computer. It was kind of trippy realizing that i can do a lot of the same things on my phone and yet it sounds exactly the same. lol
