Hi everyone,

I'm Jasper, the solo developer of Quiet Grind, an idle RPG for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. A player from this community recommended I introduce it here, so here it is - and I'd genuinely love your feedback.

What the game is

Quiet Grind is a relaxed skilling and adventure game in the spirit of classic online RPGs. You train 30 skills from level 1 to 100: gathering skills like Mining, Fishing and Woodcutting feed crafting skills like Smithing, Cooking and Alchemy, and what you craft makes your hero stronger in combat. You send your hero into five adventure zones, each with a boss at the end.

The key idea is that it plays itself while you're away. Start a task, lock your phone, and come back to a Welcome Back report of everything you earned - up to 8 hours of offline progress, or 24 with an upgrade. There are no timers to rush and no energy bars, so there's never any pressure to react quickly.

VoiceOver

Accessibility was part of the design from the start, and the whole game is built on Apple's standard controls, so it should behave the way you expect.

Every button, skill, item, stat and shop offer has a proper label; decorative artwork is hidden.
Screens are organised with headings, so you can use the rotor to jump between sections.
Related information is grouped, so one swipe moves to the next meaningful thing rather than every tiny label.
Popups can be dismissed with the two-finger scrub (escape) gesture.
Events that appear and disappear on their own, like a level-up, are announced, and announcements queue up instead of cutting each other off.
After buying something, focus stays on the Buy button so you can keep going.
Wherever you choose a quantity, besides the slider there's an "Enter amount" option to type an exact number.
Lists such as Storage, the Compendium and Achievements have filters, so you don't have to swipe through everything.
Version 1.3 is largely the result of detailed feedback from a blind player who played through the game and wrote down every place VoiceOver got stuck or went quiet. Nearly all of it is fixed in this update. The game also supports Larger Text, Dark Mode, and Reduce Motion.

There's more about each feature on the accessibility page: https://quietgrind.jasperblaauw.nl/accessibility.html

Languages

English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese and Portuguese.

Price

Free to download, with no ads. The free game includes a selection of skills; a one-time purchase of 3.99 (euro/dollar) unlocks all of them. There are optional one-time upgrades: a longer offline limit and more storage, or a Complete Bundle with everything - and optional gem packs. None of it is a subscription, and nothing needs to be bought to progress at your own pace.

Feedback

If anything doesn't read correctly, gets stuck, or is just awkward with VoiceOver, please reply here or email me at support@jasperblaauw.nl. It helps to know your device, iOS version, and which screen you were on. I read everything, and accessibility reports go to the top of my list.

Thanks for reading, Jasper

I'm already sucked into this game and I've only had it for an hour lol. Are you able to share where the soundtrack is from? It's so nice!

Thank you so much, that's great to hear! Fair warning, the "just one more level" feeling doesn't go away. ๐Ÿ˜„

The calm music you hear while skilling is by RandomMind, a composer on OpenGameArt.org. It's from their "Medieval" series: The Old Tower Inn, Exploration, Harvest Season, Market Day, Minstrel Dance and King's Feast. RandomMind released all of them into the public domain, and they have plenty more on their OpenGameArt page if you'd like to hear more: https://opengameart.org/users/randommind

The battle and boss music in each combat zone is different. I made those tracks myself with the AI music tool mureka.ai, so there isn't an artist to point you to for those.

Thanks again for playing, and please let me know if anything doesn't work well with VoiceOver!

hi,
loving this game so far after getting it yesterday. quick question, how can I get better kombat oquipment? is there a way to craft it? as I can't find it, or is it just the case of finding it during adventures and such?

Hi Hubert,

I'm glad you're enjoying it! Most of your combat gear is crafted, and each artisan skill makes a different type:

  • Smithing: melee weapons, plate armor, rings, amulets and arrows.
  • Carpentry: bows (they need arrows equipped).
  • Tailoring: cloth armor with a Magic bonus.
  • Arcana: wands and staves.
  • Leatherworking: leather armor.

Arcana and Leatherworking are part of the full game. Open a skill's crafting list to see what it makes. New pieces unlock as the skill levels up.

Every zone also has a boss, which unlocks after you've defeated enough of the zone's regular enemies. Each boss drops a unique piece of gear with its own special effect. You can't craft these pieces.

It's also worth checking Mirella in the Shop. Her stock changes daily, and some days she sells unique gear you can't get anywhere else.

Finally, hold on to your spare copies of crafted gear. They'll come in handy later. Take a look at an item's detail screen once you have a stack of them.

Happy grinding!

Jasper

thank you that is really helpful.
I have noticed that equipment can be upgraded, how can I do that, as I have enough coins to do it, yet the button is grayed out?

You have to make X amount of the same item to then upgrade it, e.g. 11 gloves to upgrade your leather gloves

Do you have to pay to unlock content? I know you have to pay for some skills, but can you complete the game without having to pay?

By dark on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 - 23:51

I'm really enjoying this, quite addictive indeed, especially setting timers and going back to collect more resources.
I love the amount of different crafting activities there are in the game.

Just a couple of questions:
First, is there a way to convert coins into gems?
I've got thousands of coins, but I'd really like to by the tools from the market. You can buy pouches of gems with coins, but it doesn't seem you can do the other way around, and though you get them from achievements and daily quests, that's quite slow going.

Second: Is there a way to do combat idle? If I close my phone whilst combat is going on, it goes back to the "begin adventure", screen, that's why it's harder to raise combat levels than the other skills.

Lastly, I've started with archery, does this mean I don't need the "power", or "magic", skill unless I decide to change up my main attack? Oddly enough, it seems you can raise power or magic skil whilst fighting with a bow, though from the descriptions only training archery and the other skills will aid my batling at the moment, and you don't seem to need the magic skill to use alchemy or enchant items.

Looking forward to seeing this boss.

Hi Blue, thanks for asking.

The base game is free to play and has no ads. You can train the core skills, gather, craft and fight through the early zones without paying anything.

There are three optional one-time purchases:
- Unlock Full-game Skills opens the rest of the skills, zones and recipes. The skills you mentioned are in this group.
- Extended Idle Limit raises offline training from 8 to 24 hours.
- Expand Storage Space adds 100 storage slots.

There's also a Complete Bundle with all three. There are no subscriptions.

To be upfront, you can't finish everything without buying the full-game unlock, because the later content is behind it. Everything in the free part works without paying. The idle limit and storage are convenience upgrades, and you can play the whole game without them.

Gem packs are optional too. You also earn gems for free from achievements and daily quests.

Hi dark, glad you're enjoying it. I'll take your questions in order.

  1. Coins to gems: There isn't a way to do that right now. The exchange only goes the other way, with gems buying coins. For now, achievements and daily quests are the free source of gems. Spend your coins in Mirella's daily shop, on storage space unlocks, or upgrading gear.
  2. Idle combat: Combat does continue while you're away. It keeps fighting for up to 8 hours, or 24 hours with the Extended Idle Limit. It eats food and potions from your storage as your HP drops, then shows a Welcome Back report when you return. It stops early if you die or run out of food, so stock up before you leave. Boss fights are the exception: leaving the app forfeits them. If a normal adventure sent you back to "Begin Adventure" with no report after at least a minute, let me know which zone it was and whether you had food. I'd like to look into that.
  3. Power, Magic and Archery: Power and Accuracy are the base stats, and they help every weapon, including your bow. Archery and Magic are the specialist skills. Archery boosts damage and accuracy with bows, and Magic does the same for staves and wands. If you stay on the bow, you can safely skip Magic for fighting. Bows also need ammo equipped to shoot at full strength. You're right that Alchemy and Enchanting don't need the Magic skill.

Good luck with the boss!

hi there.
great game.
similar to dark, i think combat does not work when i leave the app.

here's a general scenario, i am mining coal,. and go to the home tab and choose adventure and choose the first location which i can now already easily stay alive forever now and don't need any food or potients to help me stay alive because i have 2 different steel armors and a max tier iron helmet equiped, + using steel sword as weapon. once i choose start adventure, i wait around for a bit to check that my health is never going to bottom out.. all i did was to accidentally lock my screen, and then unlock it i will be back in the game, but the fighting is no longer going on. i have landed back at the preparation screen. bare in mind all this time my mining of coal is still going on uninterrupted.
unless, i should make sure to stop mining before starting the fighting, or i should leave the app for a longer time before coming back to it and see if there is a battle report or idol report?

thanks.

Hi Kelvin,

Thanks so much, glad you're enjoying it!

Your fight wasn't lost, and you don't need to stop mining first. Skilling and combat both keep running while you're away. In the current version (1.3), locking the screen or leaving the app during an adventure ends the live fight and moves it into offline mode. When you come back, the game adds up what happened while you were gone. If you were away for at least a minute, you get a battle report after the skilling Welcome Back report. For a shorter break, like a quick lock and unlock, the kills, XP and loot are still added to your character, but without a report, and you land back on the preparation screen. That's what happened to you, and I agree it feels like the fight just stopped.

The next update (1.4) changes this. If you return within a minute, you'll be put straight back into the fight you left, with no trip to the preparation screen. If you're away longer, you'll get the battle report as before.

Two things to know in the meantime: make sure Offline Progress is on in Settings (it is by default), and boss fights are the one exception. A boss has to be fought in one go, so leaving the app during a boss challenge ends it.

Thanks again for the detailed report, it really helps!

hello all,

so i am loving this game! when i go fishing though do i need cook it, to eat it which i asume restores health?

Thank you,

By Kelvin Tan on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 - 11:20

In reply to by Karok

yes after fishing you need to cook what you got. for example, the first thing you can fish is shrimp, after you get like say a few hundred of shrimp, you can go look under cooking, i think the first dish uses just shrimp to cook. after that, when you go fight, you will see your food below, just doubletap when you notice your health dropping too

As I was checking on settings, I find buttons to toggle sound effects and music on and off but what about if I want to listen to music but would like to lower the volume? Would it be possible to add a slider in order to control the volume for sound effects or music?
By the way, awesome game.

I seem to be taking a lot of damage in combat; despite raising evasion skill, indeed I've had bosses kill me before I even have time to find the buttons to eat food.

I'm trying to raise leather working to upgrade the gear I started with and have already socketed some gems into the gloves, but I also notice I have a lot of equipment slots that aren't filled, EG legs, cape and shield.

I take it that wearing big honking armour would be bad for an archer working on evasion, but I'm not sure which items to look into making, whether to try tailoring skill, or whether in fact things like a steel shield would be worth it, or whether that would just slow me down and be ultimately a bad idea, since its not clear from descriptions of some items whether this game has encumbrance mechanics or not, though the description of some of the leather gear you start with did sort of imply as much.

A bit of combat info might be helpful here, though of course I can always just mad grinder my combat skills up high enough anyway; my archery is currently at 41, with evasion and accuracy in the thirties; so nothing in the woods can touch me, though the boss of the woods takes me out in seconds, and I can only survive in the caves with using food.

By Kelvin Tan on Thursday, October 1, 2026 - 02:55

while fighting, when i trigger the +25% loot for 5 mins options, no matter how many times i press, the 5 min timer will just count down from 5 mins and then i will have to activate again. so basically they don't seem to stack like they should i guess.

hi dark, i'm just going the simplest warrior route to start, so it's more straight forward spending a day mostly in the smithy where the metal gear are. already at smithing lvl70+ just in a day. however, i am also still unsure about some of the combat mechanics myself. 6 pieces of my gear are already at tier 3, and therefore i can put gems in them. at the current moment, i have 6 opals socketed in total, which equals to 6% more evation. plus my own evasion is at lvl20s, so i should have an average evation of 12% in total. but i'm honestly not sure how they are stacking up as i still don't really see much difference in fighting especially with staying alive longer and needing less food.

whether does a player's attack speed gets slowed down by wearing heavier gear, or maybe suffer a penalty for being healy and so evation lowers, all i wish i can know too. maybe a way to see a finalised combat stats can be made available at the preparations screen before going in to battle?

I'm slightly wishing I went the warrior route as well, but I thought archer would be more interesting, and go a little better with the hole wilderness survival thing.

That being said, now I've raised leather working to 60, other recipes are showing up such as a studded vest, so maybe it's just a matter of grinding the correct crafting skills and building more gear.

I have levelled up and gem socketed the stuff I can, and its true my arrows are pretty damaging, and in fairness I haven't looked into potion making yet and I suspect the idea is bosses take potion buffs to defeat.

still, it does seem the level of the enemies doesn't really reflect the level of the combat skills you need for each area, though maybe this will change if I do manage to actually make better armour.

Hi DrummerGuy,

Thanks so much, I'm really glad you're enjoying the game!

That's a great suggestion. Right now the music and sound effects can only be turned on or off, and they share your device's main volume. So there's no way yet to lower one without lowering the other. I agree that separate volume sliders for music and sound effects would be a real improvement, especially if you want the music quietly in the background while still hearing the effects clearly.

I've added it to my list for an upcoming update. I'll also make sure both sliders work well with VoiceOver, so you can adjust them with a simple swipe up or down.

Thanks again for the feedback, and happy grinding!

Hi dark and Kelvin,

Thanks for the detailed posts! A few combat facts:

  • No encumbrance. Plate, leather and cloth are just categories. Any piece works with any weapon, so an archer can wear a platebody and a shield with no penalty. Fill every slot: your total armor reduces each hit you take by armor รท 8.

  • Zone levels mean skills and gear. A zone's range (for example Lv 25โ€“45 for the Caverns) assumes your gear was crafted at roughly those levels too. High combat skills alone will clear regular enemies, but a boss will overwhelm you in armor from an earlier zone. dark, with Leatherworking at 60 you can make the full leather set, up to the Studded Vest (55). A Steel Platebody, a Cobalite Kiteshield and a Willow Longbow are also worth making.

  • Stats: Dodge: about 1% per 3 Evasion levels, plus 1% per Emerald. Kelvin, Opals add hit chance, not dodge. Hit chance: once Accuracy plus Archery or Magic adds up to 50, you never miss. dark, you're already there, so swap your Opals for Emeralds or Diamonds. Health: Vitality gives 2 HP per level, and training it directly is the biggest survival boost.

  • Bosses are meant to be hard. They're designed so you need buffs from many skills at once to survive, especially high-level food from Cooking. Stack potions, glyphs, Infusing teas and Calligraphy scrolls together. Each skill's description explains what it adds to combat, so they're worth reading.

  • Coming in an upcoming update: a 10-second preparation phase before boss fights, so you can eat and buff before anyone can attack. The pre-fight screen will also show your dodge and hit chance.

Thanks both!

Jasper

I see that in carpentry, for example, we are building chairs, cabinets, bookshelves and other things. Then in another section of the game we are building bricks and things like that. So I would like to know if building a house or something like that may or may not be contemplated to be part of the game. Thank you in advance for your answer.
I am enjoying this game very much.

By Jasper Blaauw on Saturday, October 17, 2026 - 05:39

Hi all, a quick update for everyone following this thread. Many of the things you asked for here are now in the game: separate music and sound volume sliders, adventures that keep running while you use the rest of the app, a preparation countdown before boss fights, hit and dodge chance on the prep screen, and a reason on the greyed-out Upgrade button. On top of that there are plenty of VoiceOver fixes, and the Hallowmoon Festival runs October 17 to November 2. I've put the full rundown in a new topic: [https://www.applevis.com/forum/ios-ipados-gaming/quiet-grind-hallowmoon-festival-starts-october-17-plus-everything-changed]

Thanks again for all the feedback!
