Accessible Power Bank

Hi everyone, we’re a small accessibility-focused team from Hong Kong working on more affordable Braille displays and tactile hardware for blind and low-vision users. Our company started in 2023,and over the past couple of years we’ve mostly been focused on affordable and muliti-line Braille displays and portable tactile devices. So far, our products have been used by thousands of users across 8 countries. I am the Market Research Lead of our company.
If you want to know more about us, here’s our website:
https://s.wujieqh.com/
While testing some of our tactile modules, a few blind users mentioned something interesting to us:
“I don't know the remaining battery level of my power bank. I have one that indicates the battery level through voice, but when I am in the library, its voice really makes me feel embarrassed. And I can hardly hear the voice clearly on noisy enviroment like subway or party. Can you add your braille moudle into the power bank so I can know the battery level by the braille or some kind of tactile feedback”
That comment honestly stuck with us. So we decided to try this. In fact, we have already built a small demo prototype. On, by the way, there are two blind people in our team.
Right now the demo includes:
• Simple raised indicators (4 tactile dots representing battery level, each rising point represents 25% of the remaining battery)
• Voice battery percentage announcements
• 10,000mAh battery
• 22.5W fast charging
• Portable size similar to a standard iPhone 16
• 1 USB-A interface, 1 type-c interface
The tactile indicator comes from some of our Braille hardware technology, but we simplified it for quick battery checking instead of reading text.
That said, we still feel the design needs a lot of improvement, and before moving further we’d really like honest feedback from blind and low-vision users.
We’d like to invite around 10 people from the community to test the current prototype and share direct, honest thoughts with us. If selected, we’ll mail the demo to you. We’re only asking for a symbolic $1 payment because we won’t be asking for the prototype back afterward.
If you’d like to participate, here’s the short survey:https://forms.gle/w5QLeXKXwDNpjnku9

The survey is anonymous, encrypted, and takes less than 3 minutes to complete.
We’re not building mailing lists, sending ads, or using anyone’s information for marketing. The survey is only for accessibility research and early product testing.
You’re also completely welcome to use a nickname instead of your real name if you prefer.
And if you don’t want to fill out the form, feel free to just reply here with your thoughts or suggestions.
Our team includes both engineers and blind users, and honestly, most of the ideas we’ve had so far came from conversations with blind people themselves. We know a lot of accessibility products get designed without enough real blind-user input, and we’re genuinely trying to avoid making that mistake.
Thanks so much for reading, and we’d truly appreciate any thoughts, criticism, or suggestions.

Hello,

This is a fascinating and needed innovation for portable power indicators.

However when attempting to fill out the survey the form will not let me submit. The "I can't know battery level" checkbox says it's required, but no additional text boxes to fill appear.

Tried two browsers, Safari and Brave on iOS.

Also, when saying "yes I'm interested" there is no name/email field afterward.

Best,

Hi Hmc,

Thank you so much for taking the time to try the survey and for letting us know about this issue.

After seeing your comment, we tested the survey multiple times ourselves using both Safari and Brave on iOS, and it appeared to work normally on our side. However, it’s possible there may still be a compatibility or loading issue affecting some devices or sessions.

If possible, could you also try opening the survey in Google Chrome?

I’ve also sent you a direct message through AppleVis in case it’s easier for us to troubleshoot the issue together there. We’d really like to solve this problem and make sure the survey is fully accessible for everyone.

Thank you again for your patience and for helping us improve this process.

Best,
Angelo Li

I got it to load correctly with trusty NVDA and Mozilla Firefox.

Perhaps it's' a privacy setting I have set in my browser settings or the web application isn't rendering properly in beta versions of iOS 26.

Cheers!

Hello

I am looking forward a new power bank to replace my old one. As you see, I need to use my phone to recognize the reminding battery of the power bank.

I have finished the updated survery and willing to use your new power bank.

best.

Well done!

One of my reddit friend recommand it to us.

I found that someone gave feedback that there were problems with filling out the questionnaire, but luckily I was able to complete it. I found that the questionnaire did not mention how to transport or the effectiveness of the questionnaire. Therefore, I would like to ask if it can be shipped to Germany and if the poeple live out of US is able to take part in.

Looking forward to your reply

I find this concept interesting.

My vision has been gradually declining, and I've become increasingly interested in non-visual ways of accessing information. I can definitely think of situations where tactile feedback would be more convenient than voice announcements.

I’m not sure whether this would fit my own workflow yet, but it’s an idea I haven’t seen before. I completed the survey and shared my thoughts there.

Thanks for posting it.
