VoiceOver Eloquence Voices Disappeared After macOS Update

Hello everyone,

I’m facing a strange issue on my MacBook Air (M1) after updating to the latest macOS version.

I’m no longer able to find the ETI Eloquence voices in VoiceOver. They don’t appear under the Speech settings in VoiceOver Utility at all. I’ve already tried restarting my Mac and checking the speech settings multiple times, but the voices are simply not there.

This is quite frustrating, as I rely heavily on Eloquence voices and I’m not comfortable using the other available voices.

Has anyone else experienced this after the recent update? Is this a known bug, or is there something I might be missing?

Any help or guidance would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

Did you try resetting the voiceover settings? Sometimes it clears up some weird issues. That is pretty strange though. Hopefully you can get those voices back. Or even maybe just a simple toggling a voiceover sometimes bring back things. Hope this helps.

I have no problem on my end, maybe that's a glitch?

I don't use Eloquence much except I have an activity to witch to it and I noticed it was no longer chaning voice. And now I look in the voices list and eloquence isn't there at all either.

I don't really see how this can be a VO Settings issue because the voices are just missing altogether and can't be added.

I've also noticed a similar thing with some Siri voices - they get seemingly corrupted after a reboot (most of the time) except in that case they stay in the list even though they aren't usable unless you delete them.

Not sure if it's a regional thing maybe? I'm in the UK if it makes a difference.

Hello.
I had the same issue. the only way to fix it, and I do not recommend any of you doing this, but mac OS 26.5 beta fixes it, at least on my end. I too have an m1 macbook air. Perhaps that's an m1 macbook air specific issue? I'm not sure.

I am using a MacBook Air with the M1 chip and eloquence is working fine for me. I am running MacOS 26.4.1.
I would highly recommend you to contact the accessibility team at Apple and explain the problem you're having as this definitely does not sound right. I have had this same problem with my iPhone in the past when installing new updates and completely turning my iPhone off and back on again has fixed it. I don't understand why this is not the case for you with your MacBook.

I am using a MacBook Pro M2, so not just the M1 Airs.

No issues on mine. However I keep losing Siri voices and I have to redownload. So wish it is the Eloquence voice I lose instead of Siri ones.

I installed Tahoe 26.5 yesterday and just had a look and the Eloquence voices have reappeared. Not sure if this is a fix or if it's just there for a while and will then disappear on its own.

I've noticed with Irish lady Siri she works fine until some random time and the voice will silently corrupt and need to be downloaded again, even though the download is instant. I had thought it was to do with a reboot but now I don't think so. So not sure if Eloquence will disappear in a similar way.

I still hate the Eloquence voices but glad to have them bak as they are sometimes able to do things the other voices cannot.

Sounds like a similar issue that we were having an iOS with the Siri voice is auto deleting. It seemed to be very odd that something else pre-installed could just disappear. Hopefully you guys will all get the eloquence voices back to your max. It’s very strange. That hasn’t happened yet from my iPhone, but it won’t. I don’t love those voices, but just the fact that something that preinstalled delete weird.
