Battery charge limit

I am new to Mac, and I am trying to set a battery charge limit in the settings. The problem I am having is when I try to lower the slider for the charge limit, it goes down to 75 percent, 50 percent, 25 percent etc. I want to set the charge limit at 85 or 90 percent, but it makes me move by 25 percent when using the arrow keys to adjust the slider. How do I make it move in smaller incraments?

There seems to be a misunderstanding. The slider percentages do not represent the actual battery charge percentage directly.
The slider can be set to 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, or 0%. Each step corresponds to a 5% decrease in the actual charging limit, starting from 100% down to 80%.
So the mapping works like this:

Slider at 100% → actual charge limit is 100%

Slider at 75% → actual charge limit is 95%

Slider at 50% → actual charge limit is 90%

Slider at 25% → actual charge limit is 85%

Slider at 0% → actual charge limit is 80%

You can verify this directly in the interface. For example, when you set the slider to 75% and move with VO slightly to the right, VO will announce that the actual configured charge limit is 95%.
Hope this helps.

I was using battery toolkit before, when did they introduce this? In Tahoe? Then I completely missed it. I hope my m2 pro is not artificially limitted like with older iphones <15pro?

not sure when they introduced it, but I have the latest Tahoe and Air M4.

I believe this feature was introduced in macOS Tahoe 26.4.

If you're interested, I recorded an episode of the AppleVis Podcast that demonstrates this setting.

You are correct, I didn't notice that. I just assumed that it was the same as iOS, and the slider would reflect the actual battery charge limit percentage. Apple needs to fix this.
