dashboard help

i have a macbook pro with mavericks and i need help with whitchits in the dashboard. i pressed the f12 key to bring up the dashboard. then i did a vo-f2 2times to bring up the menu. it tells me that i have 5 items, i opened the calculator 2 more times and now it tells me that i have 7 items. how do i close whitchits? how do i disable whitchits? i tryed to follow the podcast, but couldn't get anywhere.
