Meta glasses internet connection

I understand that I need a smart phone with Wi-fi to use the Meta glasses. At home, that’s no problem. But if I’m out and about, and I don’t have a Wi-Fi connection, and I can’t find a Wi-Fi hotspot, it seems I’m out of luck. Has anyone found a way around this problem? It would seem to be a serious limitation, especially for users in rural areas.

The glasses work perfectly fine through your phone's cellular connection.

It's not needed for the glasses to work. I use them often with just my Cell data.

What the glasses need is not WiFi as such, it just needs to connect to the internet which you can do using your phone's hotspot.

Hi,
Unlike the Seleste glasses, you don't need hotspot or wifi to use the meta glasses when out and about. The bluetooth connection to your smart phone is all that's neded.
You only need wifi to set them up, and for firmware updates.
Hope that helps.

I just got my new glasses, they work fine while using Wi-Fi, but once I’m out and about, I do not have a connection. Cellular connection is turned on, is there any other options I may consider? I am using an iPhone 12 mini.

Would think that if you go to settings, the glasses, and check if the cell is on? Do not know if so, do not have any. LLC.

Make sure you're wearing your Meta smart glasses.

  1. Open the Meta AI app on your smart phone.

  2. Double tap on the third tab, it should be labeled "Devices".

  3. Find the name of your device, then find the settings button for that device.

  4. Double tap on that button, then navigate by headings until you find the "Experiences" heading.

  5. Swipe one time to the right and double tap on "Meta AI".

  6. Navigate to the Cellular updates button and double tap.

  7. Look for the checkbox next to "Use cellular data".

HTH.

The glasses use bluetooth to talk to your phone and then all the AI processing happens there, so they definitely do not need wifi. You can set them up with wifi but I believe all that does is allow it to upload your photos to your phone and update firmware.

You do need the Meta AI app to be running (in the background is fine). You would also need to make sure that this app is allowed to use your mobile data.

Wi-Fi is used for updates, which usually happen when your glasses are in their charging case.
