Hi everyone, Today I’m excited to share something that’s been bringing me a lot of joy over the past few months, my new Mac app, ChimeKeeper! I’ve always loved chiming clocks. They’re a gentle, calming way to stay aware of the time, especially while working. And I’ve long felt that your computer, the place where so much of your day happens, is the perfect home for that experience. There have been other Mac apps that try to do this, but I was never satisfied with the audio quality, so I decided to build my own. ChimeKeeper brings the sound of a traditional chiming clock to your Mac, right from your menu bar. It quietly marks the hours and quarter hours, then fades into the background, just like a real clock. Some of my favorite features: Built-in Westminster chime: rich, high-quality recordings (not computer-generated or MIDI) Custom sound packs: use your own WAV files to recreate your favorite clock Quiet hours, set times when chimes won’t play Flexible controls, toggle hourly and quarter-hour chimes independently And of course, the app is fully accessible with VoiceOver. ChimeKeeper is available now on the Mac App Store for $4.99, and I’d love for you to check it out. I’ve been using this every day over the past few months and absolutely love it, and honestly, I can’t remember the last time I ran one of my physical clocks. I hope you’ll enjoy it too. Thanks
That's nice app. Your post reminded me of your YT channel, will make a visit right now to see what is new.
Not available in my region
I really want to try out this app, but it is not available in my country. Can you make it available for Estonia?
Very nice app
I downloaded Chime Keeper yesterday and love it. It would be great if it were also available for IOS.
Love the app.
Absolutely fantastic program that does exactly as described.
A couple suggestions:
A: more optional sound pack downloads.
B: sound pack shuffle, so every day you can get a different sound pack without having to manually change them, for fun.
Other than that, excellent app. I love charming little utilities like this.
Re: David Standen
I don’t think an application like this would even be possible on iOS due to how sandboxing works.
The only way that would be possible is to use the push notifications system which would be overly complex and not the same at all.
It might be possible to re-create a lot of the features of this application using Shortcuts and automation, but it’s still not going to be as seamless as the implementation on macOS
re: macOS_Skyline
I wouldn't be so sure of that😀.
adding sound packs
Hi, I just got this app. And I see an option to add a sound pack, what format do the sounds we add need to be in, and does the sound pack itself have to be in a .zip?
Re: adding sound packs
Hi Moopie Curran,
First, I want to apologize for the delay in responding to this.
As of the 1.1 update released last week, sound packs can now be in WAV, MP3, M4A, or FLAC format. They also do not need to be in a ZIP file, just select the folder containing your sound pack, and you should be good to go!
Hope this helps.
ChimeKeeper 1.1 Is Here, Plus Additional Sound Packs
Hello everyone! Thank you all for your support of ChimeKeeper. I’m excited to let everyone know that last week, I quietly released version 1.1! This update adds a number of quality-of-life improvements and enhancements that I think many of you will enjoy.
New in 1.1
Pause Chimes
Pause chimes directly from the menu bar for 1, 2, 4, or 8 hours—or indefinitely. While paused, the menu updates to show remaining time, with options to resume chimes immediately or adjust the pause. Perfect for meetings or quiet time.
Dynamic Customization Options
Chime settings now adapt based on your sound pack. If a pack doesn’t include quarter-hour or half-hour chimes, those options are automatically hidden. For example, a striking mantle clock pack will only show hour and half-hour checkboxes.
Expanded Audio Format Support
Sound packs can now use MP3, M4A, and FLAC formats (in addition to WAV).
Sound Pack Instructions
Added a menu bar option to view sound pack instructions in your default web browser.
Bug Fixes
Improved Error Handling
You’ll now see an error if a selected sound pack is missing required hour files (1–12). Quarter-hour files (15, 30, 45) remain optional.
Aditional Sound Packs
For those who would like to try some additional sound packs, I’ve put together a Dropbox folder containing several packs I created from a few of my own clocks, along with a couple based on waveform tones. This collection currently includes: Two mechanical clocks: An Ingram gingerbread-style mantle clock (also included in VAL) The Westminster chime from my Howard Miller triple-chime clock I’m hoping to record the other two chime modes from this clock — Whittington and Winchester — very soon. Additionally, I recently obtained a pickup coil and used it to record two of my battery-operated quartz clocks: a Rhythm and a Seiko. Those are included as well. Finally, there are three waveform-based packs: A Westminster-style tone pack Two packs that tell the time through beeps

Westminster mantle
is there a way I can get Westminster mantle on VAL on my iPhone
Re: Westminster mantle
Hi Renzo,
I can absolutely do that. I just want to optimize it a little bit first, but will try to upload it and post a link here within the next day or two.
re-Westminster mantle
thank you so much
Westminster Mantle Download
Here is a link to download the Westminster Mantle pack that I include with ChimeKeeper. This also contains proper chime splits for use with VAL.
