Am I the only one who misses actual football gameplay?

Why don’t we have a proper blind football game yet?
Honestly, I couldn’t find a better place than AppleVis to vent my frustration and wonder why no developer has thought about creating a fully-featured football (soccer) game for the blind.
About 20 years ago, a developer (I can’t recall the name, unfortunately) made an awesome game called Super Football. In my opinion, it was the blueprint for what could be an endless world of ideas in this field.
In that game, a blind person could play just like any sighted person: you could pass the ball, cross it, take a power shot at the goal, defend by pressing other players, and even control the goalkeeper. Everything!
I’ll be honest—I was addicted to that game. Of course, it was missing a lot of things and was much simpler than what’s possible today. It lacked details like player stats (stamina, health, skill level), picking specific teams, or buying pro players with better attributes.
But the core idea here isn't just about managing or training; it’s about the actual gameplay. It's about the skill of controlling the player and the thrill of scoring goals.
I really hope developers see this and decide to build something like it. Unfortunately, I don’t have the coding experience to do it myself, but if I did, I’d start working on it right this second.
What do you guys think? Would a game like this actually be as exciting as I imagine?

I'd love to be able to play a game like this but I'm more interested in the strategic aspects of football.
Managing a club as the manager or even as the owner.
Yes, we have a few choices here but I'd love to see more options here as well :-)

How you would do that on iPhone I have no idea, but I've always wanted a Fifa style game for iPhone. I also think that EA, with there billions of dollars, should put some money into making it accessible, but hey, that's another conversation.
The only game that I think comes close to it is Blind Fold soccer kick, but you likely have played it already and the game mechanics leave a lot to be desired.

It's all about football ain't it? I want rugger and cricket too. Tennis, golf, all would be good.

why not any sports game? just need to play actual game and Combeat with others not just to put stratigy and so on.

There used to be an accessible golf game for android. This would have been more than a decade ago, as I got my first iPhone in mid 2012. I do not know if that game still exist or not, but it was actually pretty good for its time.

Is it just to shoot a ball or what?
i do not have an android phone to search.
sorry

If I am remembering correctly, and keep in mind this was a long time ago, but it was more or less a fully fledged golf game. And you had to watch out for things like wind speed, and weather, sand pits, etc. Things I imagine people typically have to be wary of in actual golf. As for swinging your club and striking the ball, there was a type of meter, I think it was done with sound, or maybe sound and haptics? Anyways, the more evenly matched it was when you tapped the button, the better/more accurate your shot was.
I hope that makes sense. If that game is still around, that would be amazing, because I imagine after all these years they would've had a lot of updates, assuming the death kept it up of course.

Yeah I would love to have a good football game to play. I have fond memories of playing FIFA when I was younger and had enough sight.
Perhaps I lack imagination but I’m not sure how it would work. Do you have any thoughts or examples on game mechanics?
On the strategy side, are there any good football management games that are accessible? I’d love to play the proper top tier ones like Football Manager. I tried the likes of Soccer Boss, but thought it was rubbish honestly.

So, have you ever played the game FEER? That could be the foundation for an audio soccer game. Imagine it. You're running across the field, working the ball toward the goal, you hear a player coming up on you, you swipe left or right to get around them, keeping the ball between the Arch of your feet as you work it down the field (maybe some haptics could be worked in here?). Perhaps they can incorporate a gesture, such as a two finger swipe up, to hop the ball over someone's leg if they try to sweep it away from you, or a two finger swipe down to try to do a more spectacular kick/maneuver toward the goal? Such as the move (I forget what it's called) where you place 1 foot with your heel against the front of the ball, and the toes of your other foot under the back of the ball, you kind of lock the ball in place and sort of hop up, Bending your knees, popping the ball up into the air behind you. If done right, the foot behind the ball pops the ball upward slightly, and the heel of your front foot hits it, knocking it up over your head, where you can either headbutt, or perform some kind of jumping kick like a scissor kick for example). Yes, I may have played soccer when I was a kid...

What do you think on incorporating FEER's game mechanics? Obviously it will need a lot more game mechanics, but for a foundation, I think something like this could work. 🙂

Edited for typos

Is that the move you are referring to?

By Brian on Saturday, March 7, 2026 - 00:41

I honestly could not remember the name of the maneuver, but rainbow flick sounds about right. The ball does kind of do this Arch move or it pops up behind you over your head and potentially can land in front of you, if done right.

There is a real shortage of decent audio games on mobile now. Nothing against personally but I don't care about these card / dec building game! I want an actual immersive, fun to play game, that doesn't treat blind gamers as 10 years old kid to build a medical grade poorly thought half baked distraction for.
A lot of adjectives there but I do think each word.
The only recent title I can think of is blind drive, but I also want something advanture ish, long. Not necessarily a shadow rine / a hero's call on mobile (though that would be cool), just a good combat style thing, actually dopamine driven thing. Something with actions. That moves.
This shortage is not even on mobile in fact, everywhere, just that desktop is a bit safe and old titles still work or are updated.
PS: I'm pretty sure we have and ios/ipad os gaming thread? Could change the location there.

Can you even remember it's name or something?
it will be fancy to try such a thing.

FOr me soccer manager may be my 2nd alternative in this field, am not just a football chairman, but am the coatch, who put all stratigies, pick the best players, etc,
the most bad thing for me , is that i should use the phone in landscape mode, but it is usable.

By DMNagel on Sunday, March 8, 2026 - 10:09

That's why I went back to retro games. Our games for iOS suck, but that's just my opinion. BitLife, BC4000, LifePop and Wrestle Verse are the only iOS games for me.

By Ramy on Sunday, March 8, 2026 - 12:35

Wish that i can try this game to see if i will love it or not. but i found that it cost money,
is there away to get a trial period or something?

I always enjoyed football games - whether it was Match Day on the BBC Micro, or the Kick-Off series on the Amiga, or later Pro Evo and Fifa on consoles. I like the idea of a version I could play again but I'm dubious about whether it would work on a phone, or even if it did whether my audio skills would be sufficient. I can't quite get my head around how this would work and be playable for someone like me. But I would be very interested if there was a console game that I could play.

Out of interest, are there actually any good football management games that are accessible? I tried Chairman Pro or something on the phone and it was OK for a bit but not really involved enough to be that interesting. I'm guessing things like Football Manager on the Mac are not going to be accessible. I suspect football management games are too complicated for me these days. I need to feel like I am influencing a game but I don't want to devote my entire life to figuring it out.

I used to spend a lot of my sighted life gaming and bar occasionally trying the odd pedestrian iphone game I've pretty much left it all behind since going blind which is a shame.

This was used in games like Papa Sangre 1 & 2, as well as The Nightjar by the company, Something Else. This would be crucial IMO in order to give the player a sense of being on the field, and being able to determine where other players are in relation. I still stand by my previous post that game mechanics from the game, "FEER", could be incorporated here. Better yet, give the player a full 3D panoramic world, like in Papa Sangre games, and add the necessary components to make it playable.

Hey guys!
Ea fc, the old fifa, is playable if you have enough patience and desire to play.
What I mean is that the game is not natively accessible.
No accessibility sounds, the screen reader is quite limited but it is possible.
So how?
Unfortunately, I don't have any apple devices to test to see if it would work. The most I can do is try to help.
I play on my Windows PC using NVDA with OCR, and these days I tested it on the Amazon Luna on android, which in my opinion is what would have to be used to play on an Apple, since the game only works on PCs and consoles.
Basically I use OCR to read the menus. At match time, I use the sounds of the crowd, comments and vibration from the controller.

If you need more information, I'm happy to help.

I can try to record something, although my English isn't very good and I'm not used to the game's commentary, as I play in Portuguese. If it's not a problem, I can record it.

Yes please do,
FOr sure it will be fancy

THanks so much for your time and effort, much appreciated.
however, you mike makes all things really difficult,
wish another one can make a demo with better mike, because many information are missing here, and i do not want to purchase something that i wil not play

By Brian on Monday, March 16, 2026 - 00:00

First, thank you so much for taking the time to make this demonstration for us. I have a couple of suggestions, which I hope you will take is constructive criticism, over sarcasm or anything else.

  1. When you are demonstrating a game, and it's accessibility, whether it's through OCR, built-in TTS, or something else; it's best to go through the screens, stop or pause the game, or simply put the controller down, and explain what you're doing there. Then move onto the next screen, rinse and repeat. This makes it a little easier for your listeners to follow along. However, here you went several minutes explaining things, before you ever pulled up the game menus.

  2. While I appreciate you went through every setting screen, and/or option and explain what each one was for, I think it would be better if you simply made a guide here as a post, you could even separate each category by heading, for example one heading could be graphics, one heading could be audio, etc. While you did a good job explaining the settings, nobody, I mean nobody, is gonna go back and listen to it again just to find that one particular setting that they really want to switch on/off, to make their gameplay experience better. If you wrote it down as a post/guide, it's Easier to go back to for reference sake.

  3. You absolutely need to adjust your microphone, whether that means replacing it, or something else. I had to turn the volume way up to hear your voice. Nothing personal, but you are a soft spoken individual.

  4. Last, but not least, when you're making demonstrations like this, it might pain you to do so, but turning down the speech rate will be beneficial for listeners who are not used to extremely fast spoken synthesized speech. Just a thought.

Having said that, I want to thank you once again for providing this demonstration for us.

Best,

Brian

Hi,

You mentioned in your demonstration above, that sometimes NVDA can crash when trying to get the game going. I wonder if this little add-on will help? It's supposed to be a little add-on that helps with games where you have to hold down keys for long periods of time. Link below.

I got the demo2, and i can here now.
THanks again for helping.
