Comments
so is it single player?
so is it a single-player campaign? how long is the title?
also, whilst the song about the game on youtube is great, not paying £4,99 unless please can hear some gameplay?
Yes
Yes, it is single player, and there are lots of activities to do, from rope climbing to crawling to rooftop shooting. It’s a fun game.
would like some game-play
I love the description but am not buying unless there is a gameplay video.
Understandable
I get that one. Mental Vision has a Facebook page, so if you or anyone else wants to contact them, that’s a good way to do it. I’m following their page myself and have given them suggestions.
how long is it?
Michael,
I assume you may? have been a tester. do you know how long the game is does it have replay value, and could you record us a gameplay demonstration?
I need help
I'm having trouble getting to the gun range in the gun club. I've already been to the reception desk. Could someone help me? Thanks
the courses
just so i please understand; when we go through training for 11 scenarios 5 courses are unlocked, do they change if replay? or is this a once played through once, no challenge or reason play again? not much information is clear if I am honest about this. i know i sound negative but it sounds fantastic, but until maybe a demo recording out i will literally, hold fire
sorry?
What with this unhinged description? LOL. Can the dev just clear it up so it focus on the essence of the game? for now it sounds like someone lose their mind, sorry to say that. Not a good first impression. so what is this even? a chunk of military-based minigames? do it came with multiplayer after we do all of the training, and so we can put all of this knowledge to test in an open-world map to fight other players?
it's single player
i believe the game is a first person shooter but single player. so, we train and then do 5 "courses" i guess missions but so unclear and no demos or anything but the description must have been written with AI it's very badly written
What to do after entering the range?
Hi. On the first training mission, I managed to enter the range after a lot of stumbling around, this game's nav is weird, and I do have my gun. Thing is, where are the targets it talks about? The only thing I can do is strafe and shoot. Every time I shoot, I just hear the bullet bounce off the wall. So what do I do? I want to progress but I'm not sure if the game is bugged or something. I have tried moving all the way left or right and shooting but nothing.
michael can you help?
Michael are you please able to help people get started in the game since it's "well worth the money"? if people can't even get past the range then doesn't say much?
I agree.
Help would be greatly appreciated, I want to see what this game has to offer.
There may be a bug
There may be a bug with the paper targets. I’ve contacted the developer to see what he says about that. As far as finding everything in the gun club, the goal is to explore everything, but pay attention to where you are in relation to the fan sound. I’ve found that that gives you a lot of clues as to where things are.
Thank you
Thank you for your help!
Shoot when it gets quiet
One other thing I have noticed about the paper targets is that when the background shooting gets quiet, you are more likely to hit the target. So for now, wait until you don’t here any shooting, then shoot.
The rope climbing
Sorry to blow this up, but I also wanted to address the rope climbing course. There are three ropes in a row arranged from left to right. So after you climb that first rope, be sure to go to your right to find the next rope, otherwise you’ll be wandering aimlessly. That’s one part that I wish was more clear.
Finding gun range
I am also stuck at this bit. I've reached the reception desk and after that, I followed the fan noise until I heard something like, "Checkpoint cleared. Exit the locker room and find the gun range," or something like that. But how do I find the gun range? I feel like I'm just moving around and bumping into things. Its a bit confusing!
to much hype
this game has been overhyped for what it is, clearly it needed more testing by the sound of it? even on an 18 minute youtube video i found from mental vision, he stated he only got 2 people giving feedback? so clearly the rest of the group just wanted to play the game for free?
passing on this one; overhyped AI marketing; failing to mention the navigation and bugs already present which in my view should have been spotted as always, in testing.
Navigating passages
So when you navigate any kind of passage, if you hear a bump on your left or right side, that is your indication that there is a hallway, and you’re not actually bumping into anything.
Mental Vision’s Facebook Page
If any of you are interested, Mental Vision has a Facebook page that is called just that, Mental Vision. They post every few weeks or so on that page with updates, and they are fairly responsive to comments and suggestions.
can't find anything
considering this is marketing as a fantastic fps i can't even find what the doors relate to and the sounds are s1990s why not gameplay? is it because this is such a low-grade title? sorry but i can't find out where doors go the thunk thunk of a wall sound ahead of me that sound like a game from the 1990s with me just stumbling around is unacceptable mental vision need work on their descriptions as tbh rubbish gameplay not immersive in the slightest so i found my desk and the guy giving me the pass but then what? it rediculous, sorry but true.
I requested a refund.
I will no longer waste another second on this nonsense.
Buzzwords
I haven't bought the game. I won't be buying the game. But all this does is spit a bunch of buzzwords at you and say hey trust us this is great. Also, completely and utterly distasteful to use Brandon's name in this description. That alone is enough to put me off because it's clear it's using his name to leverage this crappy product.
Immediately suspect
I completely agree with the buzz words. On top of that, the sentences are not especially clear and the description is quite circular in a confusing way. While I don't necessarily need perfect writing for an app store page or even in a game--Sonar Islands is incredible and has many sentences that have not been perfectly constructed in its tutorials--I do expect that a description be clear, thoughtful and put together with some semblance of care and professionalism, none of which has been demonstrated here. All this to say, I'm not surprised this game isn't very good.
I don't get the critique of the description.
It's almost like you're all saying that an anti-blindy conspiracy theory "poor put upon us" rant doesn't really make sense, describe the game, or make you want to buy it. I just don't understand.
I bought it twelve times already from the description alone. I haven't gotten a chance to play it yet, but I'm sure it will be so amazing I might not even be able to understand how awesome it is. Guys, it's gonna save us. *They* are going to save us.
Finally, *somebody* is thinking of us poor blind people and giving us an accessible game on iOS. Won't you give them a chance? Won't you please pretty please give them your money? It's all they're asking for, and it's such a simple thing!
navigation advice?
if someone can advise how to navigate properly except following the fan and going in circles, I may be able to get to the gun range, but so far a refund may be on the cards. later, i am sure that the game will get better, but to use Brandons name saying he'd be proud is unjustified; he worked on tripple A titles with cinematic cut scenes etc. and this just has none of that if I am honest; from the way the game was described i anticipated cut scenes dialogue etc. and it just so poor, at the moment; also, now the game is out why is support from mental vision not being offered on this forum? yes i know we are struggling some of us with navigation but no support is being offered? wouldn't you want as the developer to help people enjoy your new game? instead and not being rude we have Michael saying it amazing but i don't see how its worth the £4,99 at present if I am honest. no gameplay nothing has come out, for a title that's meant to be something to be proud of.
Will
Wow.
The description is laughable at best. Also, I would have hoped the guy have learned his lesson on using the word handy capable. That's a shitty word at best and it makes em look like a five year old! Nobody does that. Look at the credits page and you'll see what I mean. To the sound designer, buddy... You've done fantastic work on other games before this which makes me think you've improved but ya went way, back. the music is mono from what I could tell, footsteps sound like someone walking on thin ass wood and nothing to stand on, voice acting has noise floor that should not even be there, no stereo in traffic sounds, When strafing ya get one file of multiple step sound that loop but not in a good way, do I need to keep going? I don't know, kind of expected better to be quite frank. $5? I'd justify $1 or make it free because right now, it sounds exactly like ya just piled a bunch of shit together, throw it all in a big pile of messy code and called it a game with out even giving feedback from testers who knows what they're doing. To the poster, I'm not harping on ya at all if you indeed tested the game but part of me wonders. Did you give the devs clear and honest feedback? I have no doubt you have experience in this field because I know you've beta tested stuff before. What makes this even playable? Navigation is laggy as hell, no clear and concise way of letting you know where you're going and ah, yeah. The only thing I can say is menus no longer lag as is using the screen reader, but that's all that's been improved. I'd totally would have hope that because you were apart of the beta team or what... Two people? That the devs would step it up a notch. Clearly this ain't the case. Music needs to be redone, some stuff is performed sloppy and you can damn well tell. I'm a musician myself and I don't take that lightly. If you're gunna make music, please, either line it up for it sounds half way decent or perform your parts better. I will never buy from this company ever, again! I gave them a second chance with this big update with CMR and that went south real quickly and now this. Nope, I'm done! To the two people who tested, what, happened during the testing cycle.
Thoughts on the app
I read the apps description and was basically like...nope. NOt here for it. Props to the dev for wanting to make a game like this specifically for us blind/VI folks, but honestly I didn't get a good impression from the app, and after seeing the price tag I decided not to buy it based on that. Also, it sounds like the gameplay itself is kind of clunky, and I don't do clunky. Regarding Jonathan Candler's point, I too am a musician, and just from the description that was provided of the music, I'd probably want to either disable it if possible or claw my eyes out, though disabling it would be the more attractive option.
I mean no disrespect to the developer. But if you're going to write a description like this, it's got to fit the product you're trying to sell. Overhyping it or making clames that may not be accurate is misleading at best, and horribly unprofessional at worst.
Re: Thoughts on the app
Buddy I will rip out the music and record it directly if ya really wanna see it Lol Lol. At first it sounds okay but it gets worse toward the end.
@Jonathan Candler
Naa man, I think I'll pass. I hate to be that kind of guy, but if it's not at least decent at first, I'm not interested. :)
New Info on the paper targets
I have been in contact with the developer of this game, and some news that he gave me was that we’re supposed to tilt our devices like we’re actually shooting at the targets. So the three targets are 20 foot, 30 and 40 foot shots, and the goal is to tilt our devices like we’re shooting from those distances. I wrote him back and suggested that that be made more clear in that level.
All well and good, but
This is all well and good, but he's still not offering support on any other platform than facebook as I understand it. For those people, like myself, who either do not use facebook frequently or do not use it at all, those people are kind of out of luck as far as getting direct support from the app developer goes. Failing the facebook route, does the developer respond to emails? or is that a no go? Having more than one support option for any product, regardless of it's use or target audience, is simply good sense from how i'm reading it.
but how find the gun range?
how do we know though where the gun range is? navigation is not good at all in this title.
re: New Info on the paper targets
Yeah but how do we get to the gun range in the first place. I feel like you have completely dismissed our feedback which does not look good for you as a beta tester. How, indeed do we know where the gun range is. You said follow the fan but yes, done that and still no luck. I've played this a bit more and absolutely no, 3d binaural audio what so ever. False advertising at it's finest. using an IPhone 16. I'm sorry but it's not that hard to tell if a game has binaural 3d audio. I'm working on a review on this and I'd ask everyone to listen to it once I'm done and I will not be sugarcoating anything! If you're spending 5 to 10 minutes wondering around in one small place you've completely lost the attention of most people, especially when this game is suppose to be aimed for VI and blind players. Had this would have been a main stream dev I would have given them a little bit of a leeway. and the main founder is blind himself! This could have been done way, better! Like I said I would not have mind if it was free or even $1 but 5 bucks, I'd expect much more higher quality of a game some what but this is nothing but a pile that's been thrown together with out any consideration what so ever. Once more, this guy knew our thoughts when it came to CMR and everything from that and I would have hoped he would have taken that and made a way better project and proven us wrong but I rest my case. Once again, I, thought wrong.
Will give it a shot (no pun intended)
sigh.
Here we go again.
I want to be direct here, though I mean no disrespect to anyone.
To those saying "I'm not getting it," "I'm not buying it," or "screw the description" - this kind of response is part of why we struggle to attract developers to the audiogame space.
Put yourself in a developer's shoes for a moment. They visit this forum, browse some topics, and see products being dismissed based solely on their descriptions, or only trying out the game for 3-5 minutes before coming up with what could be a baseless conclusion. Why would they want to put their own work up for the same treatment?
Now, I'll admit the description in question is a bit unusual. Maybe even unprofessional. But since when do we judge a book entirely by its cover?
Before writing something off completely, consider actually trying it first. Give it a fair chance. If it turns out to be bad, then by all means share that feedback. But at least base your opinion on the actual product rather than just the marketing.
We all want more audiogames. We all want more developers interested in accessibility. The way we respond to new releases plays a big role in whether that happens.
And this? Is not how to do it. sorry, but I'm rather disappointed in what I've seen in this topic so far.
Constructive criticism helps everyone. Knee-jerk dismissals help no one.
I tried it.
I was able to get to the gun range and I shot some paper targets, but then I got stuck at the ducks. Don't ask me how I got there, because honestly I was just exploring until something eventually happened. For the targets, I just kept shooting while hoping for the best. We have infinite ammo after all. Unfortunately, the ducks just kept kicking my ass. I have a better shot with duck hunt on the Nintendo entertainment system. Anyway, I eventually deleted the blasted app and requested a refund which failed. The reason why this app is getting the hammer, is because it has been created by a visually impaired developer, so naturally there are some expectations. If you can't even navigate properly, what hope is there?
Completely agree
Thank you to that last commenter. I rarely post on this site as it is, and I was not a beta tester of this game, but the snippy comments here have been a bit offputting. If you’re not going to buy the game, that’s your choice, and if you have feedback that you’d like to send to the developer, there are plenty of ways to do that. I have posted about that more than once, so please use those to your advantage.
The Ducks
@DMNagel, be sure that your phone is tilted up to the vertical position to shoot. You also may need to walk forward a bit to shoot them.
re: Completely agree
Here's the deal. I bought the game, tried it and then gave my feedback, here! I wasn't gunna go off of what people have said because I wanted to try it and thus, gave my review somewhat. It would be different if I gave my feedback just to give it with out trying it first, trust me I'm not that, dumb! There's a reason why I said what I said. I was willing to give the dev the benefit of the doubt, as I'd hope he'd learn from his last experience when I hit that big purchase button but that ship has sailed now. Oh, and if people are refunding this game just because they're having issues navigating, that speaks volumes.
to be fair Michael
you said the game was worth every penny, so naturally i Admit i thought that you were a tester; why should we have to give feedback on navigation? this should have been tested, retested, and i can go on ..... sorry but the reason why they won't come on this forum is because they know they have produced a sub-standard you can change the wording, product, and they don't wish to face the music; if the game is worth every penny, why can't people find the gun-range? why are the footsteps just naff with no ambiance? re-read, and then re-read please, the description of this title; the way it comes across is this is the best game ever the developers are just believing we are fools; i not contacting them on facebook they need to come on here and respond to their critics, me, i admit being the main one, but sorry you would only, in my view as a player, saying the game is "amazing and well worth the money" if it was, not just to keep favour with the developers and also, if it was that easy and intuitive and fun to navigate we'd all be way past the shooting range; the game has so much to offer to be fair from how it described but the developers need to support people and comment not hide behind facebook, they released this, they should be supporting it publically, if it was that good with cinematics etc. they should be standing tall and proud of this release but they are hiding off the forum
i going get a 14 day refund changed my mind policy and get the funds back if no improvements are released by the end of this week.
sorry, but there you have it.
re: to be fair Michael
Oh shit yeah I completely forgot about that point as well. Yeah, I do recall you indeed saying that it's well worth , the money. Just look at the other comments section. By you saying that, you've let us know that this game is well tested, quality of sounds is some what up to par mostly and that we can indeed play the game mostly successfully. This is far from the truth my guy. BTW, where, is the sound designer? He's on here ain't he? Why hasn't he responded, to any, of this!
Re: to be fair Michael.
This individual is not the only critic of the developer. I, too, am a critic of the developer. The previous game, Circus Masters Revenge, was indeed a disaster, and the developer should be responding to the comments. However, on Applevis, they refuse to do so because the criticism is not palatable to them and they would rather remain in their own bubble.
Treatment of Developers
I agree that there is sometimes a generally hostile reception to every new release that isn't perfect, and agree as well that we need to be better about this as a community. However, I also think people writing about their experiences and perceptions has some value, even if such comments are not complementary. While there are some instances where tone has been perhaps a bit unnecessarily harsh, it sounds like a lot of this thread is in fact people who have tried the game and found it various shades of unpleasant and underwhelming.
In regards to the description, I'll simply say that you must be able to accurately describe what you're selling. Don't judge a book by it's cover is good advice, but covers can indeed be telling things in some respect. If a cover is sloppy, or barely describes the book in question beyond saying it's the best ever, what motivation is that for making a purchase? Again, there are lovely apps that have imperfect or vague descriptions. But past a certain point, mess does become indicative at worst, or a reason for purchasing caution at best. And this is the kind of description that looks unprofessional and AI-driven enough to make me wait to see how others found the product. In this case, those findings were negative, which unfortunately matches.
All that to say respect is important, but so is acknowledging what isn't working.
And I’ve given numerous tips
I have given numerous tips on how to navigate that gun club, make it to the range, etc. I’ve personally made it to the last level in the training. I’m figuring out how to work that out, since that level is unique and challenging. It doesn’t just take five minutes to get in there and get started—it has challenges that have to be figured out while in there. If you aren’t up for those challenges, then this game probably isn’t for you. It took me about 15 or 20 minutes just to figure out my way around the gun club, but once you figure it out, things get a bit easier from there. There may be a few bugs in this game, but it’s not meant to be easy at all. And remember, in any passage way, including the gun club, if you hear a bump on your left or right side, that’s your signal that there is a hallway going that direction. Pay attention to those bump sounds—they will be very useful.
re: And I’ve given numerous tips
That's the thing, hearing the bump sounds I turn in said direction but that either works or sometimes doesn't. A bump sound to indicate a turn? Who's idea was that? Complete overhaul of sound selection and design is what this game needs at this point regarding navigation. Sighs. Normally I would not jump the gun, as it were on any type of game but I've given the dev chance after chance on everything he's worked on and each time, felt ripped off! This, unfortunately adds to it. If you're gunna charge 5 bucks be expecting users to give ya shit when something don't live up to the advertising / hype. Cause, let's face it, that's 5 bucks that people can spend on something else. I realize, refunds, but that's not the point now. With that being said, I sure do hope this game gets better because if it doesn't, my trust is gone with this company. Hey, ya wanna laugh. Look at the creds.
to be fair for the previous title
I will say the previous title was full 3d sound, i thought this game was too; maybe, and let's be fair, maybe, when we pass the first training mission it may get a lot better, i just can't find the gun-range
Thank God I’m not going deaf
After commenting on the lack of 3-D audio of another disaster game a week or two ago, I reframed from commenting on this one too. Thought maybe my hearing was going as well. Thought my poor wife would have a meatbag for a husband sometime from now.
Lucky me, it’s only that this game is crap as well. It’s no coincidence that all of us had trouble finding the shooting range and that all of us are stuck shooting the poor birds. There is no 3-D audio whatsoever when shooting. Nothing. Everything seems to be right in front of me but nothing is.
There are too many things wrong with the game and I don’t care enough to state them here. it’s only my fault for getting ripped off. The description said it all after all, as some have stated already. Hope dies last I suppose.
They're not immune to criticism
Alright. I had to think on this for a bit because I think it's necessary.
Just because they're a new developer, which they're not, doesn't mean they're immune to criticism. They are a person charging us money for a product or service. Sure, some of us haven't tried it, myself included, and may be passing unfair judgment, however, I feel like you would also be hesitant to go into a grocery store that says, "Mostly fresh food at pretty good and cheaper ish prices! Boxes may or may not be opened, but it's cheaper!" Just because they're a new business doesn't mean they're a business I want to shop at, or even a business I want in the community. I'm getting really tired of the, "This is why we don't get new devs," argument. No. They put a bad foot forward, those that tried the game are pretty much 100% looking for refunds, and they're doing absolutely nothing to change it, so I don't feel bad for my premature judgment, and I don't feel bad for saying this is a distasteful description filled with buzzwords it can't! Even! Deliver on!
re: They're not immune to criticism
My point. If they were a new dev I'd be a bit more lenient but some of the same shit you see now is a lot of the same shit you see in CMR kind of. Here's the deal. CMR was nothing like it was advertised, the game play before the launch was nothing like it and we even gave the dev feedback and was actually exhilarated to see where the project was gunna go but after months of updates, things did not improve, kept giving em feedback and after his so call meltdown about him shutting down mental vision, I was like, okay, I see where this goes. So he ain't up for criticism constructive or what have ya. Fast forward of 2023, a new update of CMR came out which brought a new chapter and fixes. Actually, fixes were not fixes at all, kind of only made the game worse in my opinion. and now here we are. So no, he's not a new dev at all but he's got a pretty shitty track record. Yall remember the scam he tried to pull before the game launch? Something about servers and what not. I quite don't remember but it's out there somewhere. Oh, and what's with the guy using the word handy capable? That's not even a word I'd call describing anyone's capable of blindness and it's disgusting! I'd hope that word would have gotten out of his vocabulary but it's not. I remember he use to use that word quite, a lot and it was disgusting to read. Use to use it like, we are all handy capables. What?
My biggest disappointment
My biggest disappointment stems from the fact that this is a visually impaired developer creating games for the visually impaired, yet somehow they can't seem to nail down the mother of all basics (navigation). My request for a refund failed with Apple, so I gave the blasted app a one star rating for good measure.
