I'm not sure if this is the right forem to post this 2, since this is going to get complex, and end up dealing with multiple operating systems. My Rog Ally X, about 3 weeks ago, suddenly rebooted, and I found out from having used the ScribeMe app, that it rebooted into recovery mode.
I've since tried resetting it, both asking it to keep my files, and telling it to just wipe the system completely, and it ends up stuck on a screen with a cancel button.
I've attempted to contact Microsoft's Accessibility helpdesk, who pretty much won't touch it, because this is a handheld and not a PC, and they've instructed me to call Asus, which I've done, and their customer service is, in a nutshell, aweful. I'm thinking this may be a software issue, and not something I need to pay them to fix; however, reinstalling Windows/the Asus recovery file is seeming to be more of a process than I know what to do with.
If we're simply talking reinstalling Windows, I need help creating a bootable version of this using my Mac, which I've already read I'll need to do through Terminal, and this is something I rarely use. If we're talking the Asus recovery file, this is unfamiliar to me period, and I'm not sure what I need to do with that. Can anyone help walk me through any of this please?

You may have to reset bios
I wonder if something is going on with Asus, as this is the second thread where an Asus machine has gotten stuck in some kind of a boot up issue. Sadly, I am not familiar with your set up, but it may do you good to simply have your bios reset. Unfortunately, you will need sighted assistance for this. Typically, you would have to get into your bios, then get into the tab that holds the controls for resetting or factory resetting BIOS. Once this is done, and you reboot your machine, this can most of the time fix the boot up sequence and allow you to boot into your operating system.
Best of luck to you.
Cloud install
I had similar after buggering about with settings I shouldn't have been buggering about with.
In bios Asus has a cloud restore option. I did have to have sighted help. It's in the advanced menu I think but you should find the instructions online.
Here is a video:

This is for the xbox Ally X but I'd assume the instructions stand.
I ended up sending mine back.. as gaming became too stressful. I returned to my PS Portal for handheld and travel and run the indy games in Parallels. May pick up a Del XPS with the Intel panther lake later in the year...
And then return it...
oh boy not asus again?
still having the same issue. have Asus make fake operating systems to loop back into windows, then revert back to windows.
say what?
Asus and fake operating systems? While I'm not sure I'd put much passed them at this point, especially since their customer support is absolutely horrible, and given where they're based, but you've got me curious now.
How do you create a fake operating system? In any case, if I can't get this fixed within the next couple weeks or so, then it looks like another case of "you live and you learn, and I may or may not end up saving up and buying a PS5.
here are the steps they would need to do
first, you dould need to call Asus and tell them to send the unit back, then tell them you want a u.s. font base, where you re-format all the software from the hardware manufacturer and then give yourself a readable font similar to a U.s. font, not chinese font, then install the operating system with those changes, then make sure the screenreader renders these changes
how does that compare to simply reinstalling Windows?
So first of all, the last 2 times I called Asus, talking to anyone there was literally the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I'm not sure what type of a phone system they're using, but everything was fuzzy-sounding, and between that, and the fact that these people speak pretty broken English, not only could I not understand much of what they were saying, but I was barely able to communicate with them period, because they spent more time talking over me than anything. So the last call placed with them resulted in them telling me they'd send me an up-to-date number to start the process of sending the unit back, since the one I was given the first time was invalid, and they never sent it, so I think at this point I've pretty much decided this is a company I will most likely never do business with again.
