(Solved) Suggestion: Separating Latest App Submissions

I wonder if it would be possible to separate the showing of the latest app submissions from the latest forum posts? I bring this up as in recent days, there's been an increase in app submissions. This is not intended to complain about the submissions, but now that it's happening, I personally find that it's clogging up the forum posts which is what I usually come to the site to look at. I think it would be beneficial to have a separate section for both as we could then get the latest information without sacrificing either.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if this can't be done, or it's decided that it's not worth it. I'm curious how other people feel.

Assuming that you mean on the site's homepage, you can achieve this already by using the filter at the top of the list and selecting to only show forum post.

It is fine the way it is. there is no need to change anything!

I can definitely understand why some people might feel that way. The main page is really meant to be a catch-all for everything, so it’s always going to show a mix of app submissions, forum posts, and other updates.

That said, if you’d like to narrow things down, there are a couple of options that may help. On the main page itself, there is a filter by type option you can use to focus on just the kinds of posts you want to see.

Also, the Main Menu button near the top of the page opens the navigation menu. From there, you can go into the Forums section and jump straight to the latest posts in specific areas. For example, you can view the latest Apple forum posts here: https://www.applevis.com/forum/apple/latest

And the latest Non-Apple forum posts here: https://www.applevis.com/forum/non-apple/latest

Hopefully that helps make things a bit easier to browse, depending on what you usually come to the site to read.

Why you always so negative regarding each suggested feedback regarding the site? Just because you, say it's fine the way it is doesn't mean it's indeed true. You can't expect everything to go your way.

Hey thanks to those of you who let me know about the filter by type! That's my bad for never noticing that before. I've explored the main menu but somehow skipped right over the filter at the top of the list. I withdraw my suggestion heh.

Remove this comment. I know it will be removed and deemed to be violating the guidelines, but who cares. If you can ignore Dennis's dismissive and off-putting attitude and remarks and let it slide every time or perhaps even implicitly support it, than I demand you ignore this single comment of mine instead of removing it so that I can at least hope for a tiny bit of justice left in you. A whole thread where I shared a suggestion to implement single-tap navigation was removed due to such dismissive responses from a bunch of members including Dennis, so now it's his turn to face such a removal. Yes, I strictly demand justice and that this very comment of mine not be removed before his. He has made such posts multiple times where he would just cut off others like that, and he still continues to do that.

I don't really know what's going on, but I do know my comment would definitely be removed if I were to post such dismissive remarks as yours. So apparently you have some sort of diplomatic status that prevents your comments from ever being removed. And you know what? Just because the mods couldn't remove your comment, they couldn't remove mine either, so now I know how to exploit that opportunity: Demand your comments be removed before mine so my comments don't get removed. Clever, isn't it? So one can even learn certain things from such a guy like Dennis. I will keep acting as a self-moderator and intervening or demanding certain justifiable measures without waiting for the mods to act, which they hardly do in my favor, or contacting them and hoping for a fair response. Oh by the way, profanity will be allowed on Applevis from now on, which clearly proves the mods had to take certain steps to loosen their grip rather than taking even harsher measures and remove certain comments, which would have to target Dennis before me. I think I'm right to ask why this decision came right after my previous comment.
Have a wonderful day!

Whenever commenting on anything related to usability, where accessibility is definitely included, I do notice that some people only take their own perspectives into account, and refuse to accept that others may perceive things differently and may even face different issues. This can get exceptionally ridiculous when someone is egotistical to the point of refusing to accept debating a potential solution that could solve other people's problems with little to no compromises.

As for the issue at hand here, which I don't think is solved regardless of the fact that the original poster is convinced and even changed the subject to reflect that, I too think that mixing content like this contributes negatively to the usability of the site. Even if it's possible to filter out the undesired content, that's still an extra step that people are unlikely to take, and the default results in hiding potentially more interesting content from a more casual audience.

My suggestion is to implement a solution in which these reviews are displayed in their own section of the front page rather than mixed with other forum posts, just like the posts related to debating non-Apple products are promoted in their own section. The review section could even be displayed at the top of the front page since that's the main purpose of this site in particular, with the remaining Apple posts following in their own section, and the non-Apple posts at the bottom, and all these sections could even be collapsable as permanent user preferences so that authenticated users or users authorizing cookie storage could intuitively tailor the browsing experience to their needs.

While at it, and shamelessly hijacking the thread, I'd also like to suggest saving the last chosen text formatting preference when we post, since as a reddit user for 19 years, I got really used to writing Markdown, so I tend to use it a lot wherever possible, and there have been instances in which I had to edit comments because I posted Markdown content and forgot to switch the text format to match.

Just like the non apple posts and apple posts there could be a section called recent app submissions or something like that that people can just fly off the bat with and look at should they choose to. Of course there can still be the filtering options as well should a user should choose to use that. Remember, people have different ways on using things. Going off topic, To the previous poster, I've always written in html because I'm old school Lol. What's the advantages or markdown verses anything else? I'd like to get into learning but never really found a use. I know it may seem like a stupid question Lol. Is there more things you can actually do with markdown? Or is it just a preference at this point.

Think of marked down as a simplified (shorthand) way of doing HTML style formatting. Specific characters are used to replace your typical HTML tags. For example:

<h1> this would be an HTML tag for a heading at level 1.</h1>
Β£ While this would be a markdown tag for a heading at level one.

> The >, followed by a space, is all you need as a markdown tag for a block quote. Simply copy/paste the text of whomever you are quoting.

<ul>
<li> this would be a bulleted list using HTML tags.</li>
</ul>

* the*followed by space is the bulleted list using markdown tags.

<a href="https://www.applevis.com">click here for AppleVis! </a> this would be a hyperlink using HTML tags.
[Click here for AppleVis!](https://www.applevis.com/) this would be a hyperlink using markdown tags.
PS if the symbols do not read using your preferred VoiceOver voice, it's the left and right brackets for the displayed text, and left and right parentheses for the actual hyperlink.
One final note, make sure you press enter twice, after doing any of the above, or any marked down at all. I'm not sure if it's just this forum, or markddown in general, but if you do not, you will not have proper line breaks.

HTH.

And yes, I've said that applevis has a big discoverability problem especially for niche / rare thread like braille (in or outside apple products), which are probably among the most important ones. And definitely AGREE on the other part too!
