Hello all,
On my Iphone 16 E, I am using my action button to toggle voice memo recording. It is working great, except that I don't want Voiceover sound in the recording. I know I can turn off speech or turn off voiceover before holding the button. But that feels less instantaneous. So is there a way to stop VO sound in recording, or a shortcut to toggle VO while toggling recording?
Thanks.

That's completely possible!
Hi!
I suggest using the Shortcuts app on your iPhone. In the Command section of VoiceOver, under βAll Commands,β assign a VoiceOver gesture to that shortcut. When the action to start or stop recording is executed by the iPhone, there is no announcement from VoiceOver. Now, I start recording with a triple two-finger tap and stop recording with a triple three-finger tap.
You should go to the Shortcuts app on your iPhone and first create them. The Shortcuts app also provides an action to set VoiceOver off or on, which you can use if you want VoiceOver to be turned off at the same time as starting or stopping recording. For this, in the Shortcuts app, add another action in the process of creating a new shortcut that sets VoiceOver on or off when the other action of start or stop is run. If you want, you can set a beep to play when this shortcut is run to ensure that itβs recording or stopped.
You can also assign the starting or stopping shortcut to your Action Button! However, as it is not a toggling mode shortcut, I suggest assigning your VoiceOver gesture to both. In the Shortcuts app, there are some actions for controlling the sound volume of the iPhone. You can also use these actions in the process of creating a new shortcut, which helps you with a one-time run shortcut where the sound of the iPhone is set to 0 and recording begins at the same time. However, I suggest using the actions of VoiceOver setting off or on and the Voice Memos actions simultaneously in the process of creating a new shortcut.
On a MacBook, the process would be easier, and itβs good that the shortcuts you create on your iPhone also appear in the Shortcuts app on the MacBook, where you just need to assign them to your VoiceOver command.
I believe that the created shortcut can be shared between iPhone users. I can create them and send them to you. After saving them, you should assign them to your VoiceOver gesture or to your action button.
Sorry for the lengthy comment. I would be more than happy to help you further if needed. Please let me know.
Turn off speech
Start recording on Voice Memos on iPhone. Just turn off speech or before double tapping with two fingers just turn off speech by triple tapping two fingers and then start recording, and after that double finger, double tap stop recording, this should be better.
thanks
thanks for your help, kaushik and Soheil! I have used the voiceover shortcut earlier, but often I would trigger the gesture accidentally! clumsy me βΊοΈ If you could create a shortcut and post here the drive link, I could try it with the action button. All said and done, the action button possibility is what I am looking for, cause I can just pull up the phone and start recording.
