Good morning! First of all, I wish I would have paid closer attention to what topic option people are using for discussion of smart glasses and stuff. I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right place.
I was thinking about trying to record a file comparing Ally Solos glasses and Meta Ray-ban Gen2. I got little mics that can clip onto the glasses. The quality isn't great by any means, but the mics fit my budget. Anyway, I tried recording on Recup, but the second I started talking to the glasses, the recording stopped. Later on today, I plan to try again using voice memos, but I don't know if that would make any difference or not. The mics I chose have a little receiver that plugs into the usbc port on my iPhone. Does anyone know what app would work for something like this? Ideally, I'd want a free app, but if there's something that would definitely work under $10 or so, I'd consider that. I know most people have dedicated recorders. I can't justify buying one of those, especially since I can't imagine any other situation where I'd ever use it. My only other recording option is the victor reader or my blind shell, but I don't think the mics would plug into either of those. Any advice you may have would be extremely appreciated. Thanks!

try to use voice memos
Hi Missy!
Try to use voice memos
I did some demo about 2 years ago, using iPhone, and this kind of wire mics with clip and the audio was okay.
Now I have some wireless Magnetic mics which works better.
Any question let me know.
Thanks
I'll give it a try. The worst that can happen is that it won't work. If I manage to make a semi-decent recording, I'll try to share it for anyone who may be interested. So far, I haven't heard of any comparison audio files or youtube videos, so even if I'm not the most professional or qualified for the task, I figure that at least I'm not re-inventing the wheel by making the attempt.
try it
If you try, the worst thing that can happen is that don't work. Remember what is important is the content of the demonstration, not the sound quality.
personally I don't use iPhone any more but I do remember using an app called BackPack studio, when it did.
Found an App that should get the job done
I have an app called EZ voice recorder. It seems to work well enough for my needs. Not sure exactly when I'll have the energy/time to record the comparison, but at least now, all the pieces are in place.

Looking forward to your recordings. 😊

Looking forward to checking it out. I have some thoughts about those incision glasses lol.
Unfortunately, comparison recording may not be possible
So far, the technology gods are not cooperating. I thought Easy Voice Recorder was going to do what I need, but when I attempted to record last night, my mini mics, which were clipped onto the glasses, didn't pick up anything at all from the Ally glasses, which is probably just as well; they were in really rare form last night. My plan was to test both pairs of glasses with 3 tasks: reading a paper, identifying an item and then a scene description. The Ally glasses failed spectacularly; didn't pass any of the 3 tests, not even a little bit. I described what happened in the most recent thread about the Ally glasses. The Metas technically passed all 3 tests; I think I'd give them a grade of B. I don't know if the mics I have could plug into my victor reader or not. I've never had a need for a stand-alone recorder before, and I'm not even sure having one would solve the problems I'm having. If I ever do find a way to get a quality recording, though, I'll be sure to post it on Applevis.
Bluetooth speaker
Is there any way to route all audio through a Bluetooth speaker, regardless of any peripherals you are using/wearing? If this is possible, I think it would solve your issues with the microphone. Asking because I honestly do not know if this is even possible or not. 😅
Great minds think alike!
I actually thought about trying to use a blue tooth speaker last night when everything went south. I don't know if it can work, given the way both pairs of glasses need to connect to my phone. Maybe they can pair with a speaker too, but I wouldn't know how to go about making that happen. It would be an ideal solution if it could work, though.
Rotor
I know there was an Audio Destination rotor action, but I don't believe Apple ever fixed it. Not sure about regarding iOS 26, though...
ah! Audio destination
It never even occurred to me to experiment with this option. I have no idea if it will work for devices connected to the phone or not, but it can't hurt to find out. I'm not sure when I'll have the mental energy for that level of tinkering, but I have several BT speakers I could try to play around with. I'm thinking this is a project I will investigate more thoroughly when I have my 2 week vacation from work during the holidays.

Do you have any computer or some other phone around?
Yes, if you had any other device where you could connect the external microphone,
You can also capture the sound using the Victor reader stream by itself without the need for a external microphone, you will need to have the Victor reader stream really close to the glasses arm speaker and the sound will not be the best quality but it would work. For the cause.
