Hi, for those that have the iPhone 17 pro how do you like? How long do you get off a charge/? How are the speakers? What are the advantages of the 17 pro max?

Hi there,
I have the 17 Pro Max. The speakers are okay. They can be very loud when they need to be. I also don't know if this is the speakers themselves or my hearing aids, but the volume does seem to fluctuate.
The battery life, compared to my 15 Pro, is absolutely insane. With the 15 Pro I needed to charge it at least once per day, and even then it barely made it through the day. I don't have to charge the 17 Pro Max. Depending on my usage I can make it to the end of the day with my battery as low as 25% (starting from 80%) or as high as 50%. Keep in mind, I'm a heavy user and stream a lot of audio/video, so if you don't your battery life will be even better!
Hope this helps.

Can you explain which volume is fluctuating, please? That of the iPhone of of the hearing aids? I am a HA wearer too, and I am considering whether I ought to upgrade from iPhone SE 3rd gen. (2022) or keep using it until, say, 2027 or even 2029.

Moreover, do you use LiDAR? If you do, does it help with orientation, navigation, and/or locating destinations at all? I am considering trying an app called SmartAIs requiring LiDAR, whose developers, a start-up company in Munich, Germany, might also add non-LiDAR features one day. I would hope they do this sooner than later or never.

I have an iPhone SE 2022 and I’m also hearing aid user. If you want to keep that phone, it will probably get software update for a while still. I mean none of us can totally say for sure how long. I have never used any pro phones. I have no idea how you use for the light sensor would be. Hopefully somebody can give you help on that part of your question. I’ve never even seen a pro phone. But I’m keeping my SE until it doesn’t have any life left in it. But that’s obviously up to everybody’s individual use case as far as Phone you wanna have. It’ll be your first phone without a home button if you get a 17 Pro. But switching away from the home button is actually not gonna be too bad once you get used to what the gesture is for it. Hope that helps. The gesture is that you’re just swiping up on the bottom right corner of the screen and if you swipe up two times to click and then move your finger you’ll get to the home screen and then swipe up three clicks you need to take your finger off and get to the app switcher. Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, I honestly have no idea what the answer is to this one. I *THINK*, in all caps, it's the volume of my hearing aids, as my phone usually sounds fine when I'm not wearing them, but I'm far from certain.
As for the LiDAR sensor, I do use it sometimes. I have found it to be fairly helpful in guiding me to say, a chair, in a familiar room, but I don't visit a lot of places that are unfamiliar to me.
If you have an SE 3rd gen (2022), I would hold onto your phone for another year or two, if you can. The 17 Pro Max is great. But if your phone still works for you and you're satisfied with the battery, I'm not sure an upgrade after three years would be groundbreaking for you. The 18 lineup, from what I hear, will improve on some aspects of the 17 series that some folks aren't so thrilled about.

As my subject says, which version of iOS are you using, Gar? Asking because I, too, have an iPhone SE 3, but running iOS 18.7 until 26 becomes more stable. However a friend has an iPhone 16 and she is running iOS 26 and she has the volume fluctuation on her device.

I'm running the iOS 26.2 beta for now. I will have to definitely do more testing to verify, but the more I think about it, the more I lean toward it being a hearing aid thing over fluctuations in my device volume.

I failed to mention this above, but my friend does not use hearing aids. However, that is not to say that your situation is not related to your hearing aids.

I changed from an S.E. 3rd gen to the 17 pro max. totally impressed with all the fetures . no disappointments very glad I changed. the screen is so much larger and very easy to swipe. the speakers to me are very good at this time I have no complaints.

I have the 17 Pro, my hearing is actually a little bit above the normal range so I definitely don't need aids, and I might have experienced the fluctuating volume mentioned on this thread. The problem, as I understand it, is that Apple is over-saturating the bass at lower volume levels, however since the speakers can't physically keep up with that without distortion at higher volume levels, iOS dynamically messes with the equalizer whenever a sound goes beyond a certain power level, thus the voice synthesizer will experience a lot of dynamic and very noticeable frequency filtering making it sound like its volume is constantly changing.

Since I rarely need to crank up the volume enough for that behavior to be triggered at home, and since I always carry my AirPods Pro 3 to enjoy privacy interacting with my iPhone or Apple Watch away from home, this specific issue doesn't bother me much personally. People with MFI aids may also be able to benefit from connecting their iPhones via bluetooth thus enjoying the same experience that I enjoy with AirPods.

After some testing of my iPhone 17 Pro Max, I have started to come around on this issue and now I think it's my phone that's responsible.
As far as I can tell, using the Alex voice with voiceover volume at 100%, my phone starts to clamp down on its volume at as low as 31%. It really gets noticeable when the volume reaches the 40's and 50's though. Is anyone able to confirm these findings?
