Hi there.
At the moment, Apple has discounts for educational facilities, but a number of people with disabilities whether visual or hearing also use Apple products.
This petition asks Apple to consider providing discount for people with disabilities, in the same way that they provide discounts for educational settings.
This could make Apple products more affordable in the future.
The petition is here:

Apple has never been known for discounts, not even for the regular people. Maybe in blue moon. Most discounts you find are in amazon or others stores online in the US. My AirPod pro 2 that I got from amazon was 180$ instead of what it cost. Airtags from amazon.

one form of discounts exists, education discount, directly from apple. Through it, you can only buy an ipad or a macbook, nothing else is included. They made it because they desperately want ipads and macbooks to be used with education that's why they want to make it sound more appieling. But from what I've scene unless if there is a limited time offer like the one I got with my ipad air where it lets you either get a free excessary like an airpods 4 or pencel, or if it was more than $100, it discounts it for you, got the magic keyboard for $120 instead of $250, but if you can't find something like that well the discount is... Lackluster to say the least. Still it's better than nothing if you're studying. From what I can tell it's nearly 10%? Or a bit less. I remember on the ipad air it discounted $80 or so, but when checking macbook prices it was nearly $130.
also, to clarify, you need to show them proof, they asked for a university ID card, and another time they asked for my university email showing mail messages received from the university recently.
Thank you for the petition and voicing your opinions around it
At first I thought I was the only one who had this thought about the petition but I did some research and saw a few on Change.org requesting the same. I happened to start my own petition on Change.org but this was before researching if others have also started a similar petition.
I will sign this petition, I will share the link to my petition. You are not obligated to sign it. If you wish you can sign it and support but I am not here to start another conversation about if we need a Disability Discount or not. My thought on this petition is totally influenced by the Student Discount that apple is already offering on their products. So lets not break our nuts in justifying if this Discount is stupid. unnecessary/ charity/ ridiculous or any such other opinions. Do you see any students complaining about the discount they got? How did apple decide a Student Discount? Did they raise a petition like we are doing? NO, NO absolutely NO. So take a chill pill, don't debate such things, instead support with your signature if you think this is a equal ask, ignore if you think elsewise.
Much respect to all those who understand the reason behind asking such a discount. Have a good one!

I disagree
First of all, whose idea was it to pull this topic back up after 5 years? but I do disagree for the reasons everyone has stated above. Sure it would be nice, but it's not practical and not gonna happen. Sorry to those who are hoping though

entitlement
lol entitled blindy moment @mister kayne
To those who say cheaper phones are easier to buy then to wait, just wait until you have enough money saved up.
Yes you have to wait longer but your buy will be worth your money at least. It's not that hard.
entitlement?
I am surprised that you called it entitlement. Would you also call the Student Discount a entitlement? Disability benefits, Entitlement?
Yes you have to wait longer but your buy will be worth your money at least. It's not that hard.
It is that hard for some of us who do not have the privileges from our Government, it is hard when you are trying to meet your family needs and also trying to get the best of accessible technology so that you can compete everyday to fit in an abled world, it is hard where you have monthly budgets, it is hard when you have to justify your need for accommodation to the abled world, it is hard when you work yourself double to prove yourself at the work place and aren't paid at par with your sighted peers. It's hard, and no time does not wait for everyone, it does not stop, it does not have mercy, it takes a toll, it is hard to buy back, actually it can't be bought back.

a fundamental disconnect
Reading through this thread, it strikes me that there's a profound disconnect between two very different points of view shaped by two very different circumstances. On the one hand you have the developed nations, that provide disability benefits, government subsidies etc. On the other hand you have countries like mine, where such things are a myth you tell your students so they can marvel at just how amazing it is on the other side. In a developing country the unemployment rate is closer to 90 percent than 80 for people with disabilities. the social service programs that allegedly are supposed to help the elderly and the disabled are a joke, and at no point in recent history has our government made more than a token gesture toward even noticing the disabled. the Equal Opportunity Bill of Rights is a pretty recent piece of legislature as such things go, and it's pretty obscure. To someone in this situation, taking advantage of a discount would be the smart thing to do. Those in countries on the higher end of the prosperity scale might have a hard time understanding this.
My thoughts...
Personally, I donβt see why Apple should discount their iPhones for the blind.
There are millions of people worldwide who simply canβt afford a cheap mobile phone, let alone an exorbitantly expensive smartphone.
Iβm speaking from experience, being married to an overseas national who used to earn the equivalent of $15 a month working 10 hours a day, seven days a week with no holiday entitlement.
That said, I think some people should be more tactful with their responses.
For instance, those of us in the West who receive generous benefits regardless of our employment status should be more mindful when Telling someone from a developing country to save up and buy their own smartphone bearing in mind an iPhone base model costs approx. 80,000 Indian rupees which is three to five times the monthly income for a blind customer services rep in India.
Poverty
People confuse it with not being able to have iPhone. Saw a story of a young kid in South America taking his kitten to a store to exchange his pet for food for his family, the kid was 5 years old. He was not thinking about having an iPhone or the sad mean people from apple not giving him on. He wanted food so his mother and sister eat something. That is poverty. Long live cats.
I feel you: Winter Roses, Tayo and Others in my situation
The Entitled Students got their discount, we have to still claim our Entitlement.

Someone forgot to read the FINE print.
A special shout out to Bruce Harrell:
give them their freebee iPhone, Pat them on their poor little heads and send them back to their corner with their little tin cups selling pencils. Smile. And they'll have their charity iPhones to keep them quiet!
FYI: There are organizations working everyday to promote disability employment, are all the blind people employed? What are the statistics of disabled VS non in employment? Do you have the figures? Do you know if they are being paid equal to their non peers? Are all the non-disabled employed? What are we actually talking about here and what are we actually trying to compare? This has nothing to do with social rights to employment or education, it's simply a petition asking to consider Disability Discount as they offer a Student Discount. Don't insult your own intelligence and hurt mine.

Mister Kayne
FYI, personal experience I worked as a social worker in the same agency for 17 years, the ended my program and had not worked since them. People love my resume and experience but as they find out I am blind, never heard from them. Social workers go figure. It does not address the difference between poverty in my story. Picture the little kid begging for food for his family and he is willing to give his pet away. Entitlement, well I am not going to say, students do get discounts, so are seniors for this and that. I manage my money and still able to pay my mortgage and got a nice deal from Verizon for iPhone 16 pro max, when it came. Long live cats. out.

"If Apple gave an iPhone to a blind person every
five years, who would it hurt?"
Apple would have to give away a lot of iPhones considering there are approximately 36 million blind people worldwide with about 90% residing in developing countries.
Mister Kayne
"The Entitled Students got their discount, we have to still claim our Entitlement."
Even if Apple offered a 10% discount, it's still much cheaper to buy a refurbished or secondhand iPhone.
Android
Interesting that people do not even mention them, Some are about $200 or $300. If I wanted a discount, I would ask for any cell phone that has speech program such as VO or talkback. Long live cats.
thoughts of a former (cheap) Android user
I would not encourage anyone to buy a low-end Android phone if they have to rely on Talkback. the lower specs of those phones drag the performance of everything, including accessibility, to a crawl. If you want to take advantage of apps and services that require more from your device, your average budget Android isn't gonna cut it. the voice of, admittedly not recent, experience. This was quite off-topic, but I figured the above comment required some pushback.
Tayo
OK. Thanks it was a question. Since you are talking from experience. Never used it so did not know. Now I know. I think this topic is probably driving applevis nuts. Like I said before, this will never end. Long live cats.
