Or I believe I do experience this.
I feel the on screen keyboard is a bit sluggish since upgrading to iOS 26.
I'm currently running iOS 26.0.1 on an iPhone 14.
I've turned off audio ducking completely and I think it's a bit better actually.
I'm still experimenting with this though.
I usually have VO audio ducking set to while VO speaks but now I switching between off and while speaking to figure out if that helps.
I'm also on an iPhone 14, and currently using Samantha Enhanced. I've not experienced any sluggishness with the on-screen keyboard. Furthermore, I was using my HumanWare eReader yesterday a bit and found that the on-screen keyboard was turned off in the Braille settings. It is currently turned on, but I will turn it back off and see what happens. I had a slight issue with the on-screen keyboard before upgrading, so perhaps Apple fixed this at least for some of us. It's interesting how these issues crop up for some users but not others.
Absolutely. I'm using an IPhone SE 2nd gen. It's utterly pathetic! I wish I'd never updated, but they'd have forced the issue at some point anyway. Indeed, it appears my Cox Panoramic app no longer works, which kinda makes it hard, since I'm the family sysadmin, & now I can't control devices, etc. I didn't complain about the sluggishness since I fully understand my hardware is pretty dated, but it appears I'm not the only 1 experiencing this. & yes, I did restart my phone. & I waited till the .01 update. BLAH! Truthfully, I think I began noticing this w/ the 18.71 update as well, though not nearly as profoundly as in 26.01.
Whenever I send a message and ype. Also VO sometimes does not read the letter after typing. Is it me or iOS 26 made VO worse. There are more bugs about VO than a NY city hotel.
What I here is VO clipping off most of the spoken letter after typing, but not all the time. It's just a tiny bit of the beginning of the letter that sounds when it happens.
I've had the issue with letters and numbers not always speaking when I put my finger on them prior to ios26 mainly happening on the lock screen when I'm unlocking my phone.
Hi everyone, I have not experienced this issue on an iPhone SE third generation or my iPhone 15. I’m using regular Samantha and my iPhone SE and I’m using regular Karen on my iPhone 15. I’m wondering if I have anything to do with the synthesizer that we’re using? It doesn’t seem to as the original poster said they were using eloquence. Have you tried changing the specific voice of eloquence or changing to a difference in the size are completely just to see if that makes any difference? I know somebody else mentioned that they use Samantha enhanced. It doesn’t seem to make any difference as far as a device either if people seem to be having this on some of the older devices and some newer ones. Well, I hope this issue will get resolved for you guys really soon. This was just some ideas that I had that I was hoping could hopefully be good work around for you. And yes, I restarted both of my phones a couple times. I’m wondering if switching to one of the default stocks would fix this issue for some people. I’m wondering if switching to one of the default stock voices would fix this issue for some people. Just out of curiosity, is this only happening with the US English keyboard? Has this happened with any other language on screen keyboard? I only use the US English keyboard. Again I have not experienced this issue personally, I’m just trying to come up with ideas to help you guys out. I hope it helps.
I use the Norwegian keyboard and I feel it's a bit more sluggish after upgrading to 26.
Actually I have a multilingual keyboard because my keyboard is set up to use both Norwegian and English (U.S.).
The strange thing is that the sluggishness seems to disappear when I disable audio ducking.
Go figure :-)
I just updated my old backup device, and iPhone SE 2020, to iOS 26.01 last night. I am not experiencing any sluggishness at all with the keyboard.
Edit: I believe somebody posted about this a while back, where if you have a ton of replacement words under your keyboard settings, it will cause the keyboard to lag. E.g. 'omw' for the phrase 'On my way'.
When I first updated this device to iOS 26.0, I did a full factory reset, and setup as a new device. So I have absolutely no custom replacement words saved under keyboard settings.
I don't really notice much of a difference between, say iOS 18.7, and iOS 26.01, on my iPhone SE 2020. Again though, I did a full factory reset, and did not restore from back up, rather setup as new device.
I don't really have any custom apps, or anything on this device right now. I mainly wanted to just check out iOS 26 features.
Like Old Bear and others, voiceover either partially speaks the letter double-tapped or nothing at all. So then you have to read back to make sure everything's there.
Yeah, that's what's happening w/me as well. Either the character spoken is clipped, or it's not spoken at all. I'm using VO Samantha, a truly primary voice, so I'm not sure it's a primary vs nonprimary voice issue. It's annoying & really makes it tough to get anything done.
I don't think we're being negative here. We pay as much for our devices as anyone else, and therefore they should perform accordingly. Some sighted folks are apparently having issues, and those need to be addressed as well and ASAP, because, they, too paid good money for their devices and expect them to work as advertised.
I don't like negativity either. This, however, is reporting problems w/features built into the device, and everyone has a right to report those and expect prompt fixes. Problems can't be documented or repaired if they're not reported.
I am using Eva for my message app. Same issue. I gave their own voice to the music app, email and message app. Each have their own voice. This was not an issue on iOS 18.Long live cats.
It’s not the reporting of issues with the problem, it’s the constantly saying that the software has so many bugs. Every time people on here wanna post something. Of course, bugs have to be reported in order for them to be addressed. Nobody’s telling anybody not to do that. It’s the constant need of some people on this website to tell us every time something happens to their device, but there’s more bugs in the software than there isn’t anything else just constantly saying it. That’s why people think that’s negative. Just nobody wants to hear that every time they read a post. Yes there’s things that need to be reported. Of course they do. Nobody’s telling anybody not to. But it does get a bit tiring to have to hear that there’s more bugs in this software than there ever was like every year we come up with a new iOS. I’m sure Apple will fix things. We just have to keep letting them know what’s going on. They do listen to us.
I've owned Apple products since 2013. There was a real problem back then w/1 of the updates, if memory serves, but it got fixed quickly. I'm not saying that Apple is ignoring this, and I'm not saying it won't eventually get fixed, but what I am saying is that I don't ever remember a bug impacting my ability to use my device for this length of time. So, while I didn't myself say it until now, I do think this is, at least for me, the worst experience I've ever had upgrading w/Apple. I get this happens all the time w/upgrades to operating systems, I get I'm not the only 1, I fully understand that blind folks aren't being intentionally singled out, I even get we may never know the full cause of why this occurred. What I also get, & that painfully, is I can't use my device to do the things I want and need to do w/it. And what I also feel like but can't prove is that Apple's gotten so caught up in the siren song of AI that other stuff like quality control has just sorta taken a back seat. And, unfortunately, IMO, they're not the only ones. Companies want to be the leader in this or that shiny new object. Being a leader in quality is just boring. But I think that if, for once, someone actually tried making their mark in that arena, they'll have folks battering down their door, because what matters to most of us is just being able to do what we need to do in our daily lives. Most of us have lived very well, thank you very much, w/o AI for the majority of our lives. We can continue to do so. But a device on which we can't accurately type isn't something we can or should live with. & that, folks, is my 2 cents and is likely worth precisely what you paid for it :). I'm just frustrated, both because I'm basically hobbled now, & I have no idea how long it's going to continue.

Do not have them. This is an iOS 26 issue. Previous iOS was smooth and fast. Long live cats.

I am glad I am not the only one. VO is broken. There are more bugs in this iOS than any other. PS. It is not negativity.

Report it to Apple every time somebody tells you, on this website, to report it to Apple.
'nuff said. 😜
