Hi all,

I received my new meta glasses today but unfortunately there's no user instructions that I can find in the box. There is what I gather is a user's manual but at least from what my mom read in it that's no help to me.

I was given an mp3 file of a lady using the glasses and showing some of the stuff you can do, but there was nothing about how to set them up to work and that's what I need help with.

Thanks.

I must admit when I got my glasses I never looked at any guides. I installed what is now called the Meta AI app and went to add my glasses in that way. It took me through what was a pretty accessible setup guide which helped me pair the glasses and setup the different options, and it told me how to use them.

This was a good while ago now so the app may have changed a little, but I vaguely remember I only had two issues. Firstly when it asked me to select which classes I had, there are options for the Stories and the Wayfinder but they were unlabelled at the time. I seem to remember swiping up and down on the unlabelled images told me what they were. Hopefully this has been fixed by now.

I also had a little trouble finding where the camera button was. It is on the right arm (if you are waring them) and right at the end where the lenses are.

Otherwise it was not too hard. It takes a while because it guides you through everything. So just make sure you have some time to spare.

I installed the app on my phone before even receiving the glasses so I'll check it out. Yesterday when I unboxed the glasses I just put them on and expected them to work right away but that obviously didn't happen. I heard the little bleep telling me that the glasses had turned on but nothing after that.

Not to contradict Mr. Grieves, but I believe the camera is on the left edge of the frames, next to the left arm, and the thing on the right is the LED, which lights up whenever you take pictures and/or record video. It is a means of letting the cited know that you are capturing, which I believe is required by privacy laws.

I can't remember where I read it but I know the on/off switch is on the inside of the left leg of the glasses near the hinge. I read somewhere that I'll use my fingernail to turn the glasses on and off but is it a slide switch? I've felt where I assume the switch should be and I just feel a narrow area that's kind of rough, is that the on/off switch and if so how will I turn the glasses on and off?

By Brian on Sunday, May 25, 2025 - 02:47

Yes, there is a small switch on the inside of the left arm, almost right next to the hinge. When it is slid towards the lens, it is powered on, and when it is slid away from the lens, it is powered off. You can usually tell by tapping the touch sensor which is located on the outside of the right arm, between the temple and the ear. When it's off, nothing will happen, when it's on, you will hear clicks when tapping on it.

The camera button is definitely on the right arm of my glasses. The camera itself may be on the left, and it would make sense for it not to be next to the button to avoid you covering it when you press it.

How do I put the glasses in bluetooth mode? And, do they have to be connected to my phone before I'll get any response from them? The first day I had them I put them on and heard a little bleep letting me know that they had come on, but the glasses never said anything after that including the battery level. I even said "hey meta what am I looking at" and there was no response.

Hi all,

I opened the meta AI app and under the devices tab I chose add a new device; and one of the things it says is to remove a tab from somewhere on the case. I had my mom look and she doesn't see any tab so where is it located in relation to the charging port since I've already found and used that?

By Brian on Monday, May 26, 2025 - 00:47

I don't recall any tabs, but I've had my glasses for nearly a year, so I could just be forgetting.
Regarding pairing your glasses, there should be a button on the case, somewhere near the bottom, near the charging port. You may need visual assistance with this, but essentially what you need to do is hold it down until it pairs with your smart phone. You'll want the Meta AI app open for this, and as mentioned above it may be best to go through the Meta AI app in order to start the pairing process. Either way, you need to hold down that button until it pairs, once it has paired and updated, all should be well.
The reason I mentioned cited assistance, is because there is a light that lights up around the button, like a ring, and I believe it turns blue when it's either pairing, or has fully paired.

I had my sighted mom look and the only thing that looks like a button to her is where the case shuts. She says there's a light there, a blue light I think, but the round area associated with that doesn't press.

I sent an e-mail to the guy I bought the glasses from, a business owner that sells the glasses, but I haven't heard back from him and that's probably because of the holiday weekend. If I don't hear from him by the middle of the week I'll call him and maybe he can solve the mystery of the button I'm supposed to push and tell me if it's hidden by some kind of tab as the app claims.

The button is on the back of the case, near the bottom, very close to the charging port. It is also very, very flush with the case itself, so it might be a little difficult to feel. As I understand it, a sighted person should be able to see it quite easily, however.

All those accessibility features are great but I have been using a TWS bluetooth ear bud to enjoy my apple music which I must say is just a mind blowing experience. Has anyone used apple music with these glasses, does it offer the same experience and excitement of listening to apple music on any other earphone? When listening to the music do people around you ask, which song is that?

By Brian on Monday, May 26, 2025 - 18:47

No Apple Music, but I use Spotify and Audible with my Ray-Bans. They sound great, though I have recently come into an issue where if I am playing Spotify on my fire TV, and then go to open my glasses, the music tends to automatically switch to my Meta's, which can sometimes be frustrating.

After talking to a friend this morning that has the glasses I just discovered the bluetooth button on the case. I know I think it was Brian who told me where to find it in this thread, but I still had it in my head that I was looking for a tab and not a button but it turns out that it was just the button and not a tab.

Now I think I'll be able to go into the app and get through the setup, so thanks to everybody who answered my questions in this thread.

Hi, has anyone figgured out how to reroute the speech from the glasses to the phone. I find that it makes my phone sluggish when I'm trying to type.

By Brian on Monday, May 26, 2025 - 21:47

Unfortunately, that feature is kind of broken in iOS 18. In settings, accessibility, VoiceOver, rotor, rotor items, there is an item called "Audio Destination". Theoretically we are supposed to be able to enable this, and then using the rotor, be able to choose where the audio comes from, E.G. headphones/earbuds, Bluetooth speaker, the phone itself, etc.
As I said, it is broken in iOS 18, so you will just have to wait until they fix this in order to utilize it.

Sorry. 🫤

While not the greatest workaround, you can take the glasses off, and fold the arms, which will temporarily disable its Bluetooth connection, then type and/or dictate your message on your phone, then put the glasses back on which will reestablish its Bluetooth connection automagically. I know it's not the best way to go about things, but it's better than nothing.

I am fundamentally against hearing anybody playing their music to the point where I could hear it. I don’t like that these glasses have speakers. People of course can listen to whatever they want. I just don’t wanna be a part of their experience. I don’t make others part of mine.

Whenever I hear anyone playing their music on their phone, a boombox, glasses, whatever speaker, and I’m going to be in. Let’s say a train, bus, flight with them, I asked them to lower the volume or to walk away or to stop playing it. Again, I didn’t consent to hearing What they enjoy. Consent means everything to me. And I don’t consent to listening to somebody’s messages or music or TV show or phone call.
