SIRI has a pretty cool feature called Personal Update. Just say, "SIRI, what's my update?" and SIRI tells you the weather, calendar appointments, reminders, and reads the latest news. But only if your phone is unlocked. When your phone is locked, SIRI gives you none of that information, and simply tells you to unlock your phone.
How can I change that? I want to be able to get my personal update even when the phone is locked.
I don't use Calendar or Reminders, so 100% of the time, my personal update consists of only the weather and the news. It can do each of those individually while locked. But, for some reason, personal updates requires an unlock, even when there are no calendar appointments or reminders.
Any suggestions on how to get a personal update while the phone is locked would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could, of course, simply ask Siri first for the weather, then the news ...
I didn't even know about this feature. But, yes, trying it now confirms that it requires an unlock. That makes sense because your calendar and reminders are personal and therefore protected by the system. I am not sure how one might go about changing this. It must be an oversight, since there's a switch in Face ID settings to allow Siri while locked. I wonder if other settings in here would help?

I've never heard of this command either. Just gave it a try and got the weather and reminders. Then he said that if I wanted the news, install the Podcast app.

But it got a lot of press when they first rolled out SIRI. And it used to work without an unlock. I think it was like iOS 13 where it started requiring an unlock. At least, I see a lot of Apple forum topics discussing that the iOS 13 upgrade broke their ability to get calendar events without an unlock. And there are some unhelpful auto-posts from Apple indicating it should still be possible. But no fix.
Sebby, yeah, that's my workaround for when I just stepped out of the shower or my hands are busy preparing food or folding laundry.
Another obvious solution would be to remove my passcode and Face ID. Because, let's be honest, I've had an iPhone for 18 years this fall and it has never been lost or stolen and no one has ever tried to gain access to it. But unfortunately, there's no way to have Apple Pay without Passcode and Face ID, so I'm pretty much stuck with them enabled.
It just seems like there should be a switch, Access Calendar Events While Locked, sort of like how there is for Notifications. And there should be the same switch for Reminders. But no, that switch doesn't exist, as near as I can tell from a morning of searching. And I don't get why Notifications are different from Calendar and Reminders.
Today View blues
Ironically, well your phone is locked, you can access the lock screen, and then today view, provided that switch has been toggled, and see your calendar right there. No, it's not Siri, but no need to unlock your phone to see the calendar widget.

Wow, that's huge. Here's what I did: With my phone facing away from me so Face ID didn't unlock it, I went to today view, navigated to the calendar widget, double tapped it, and voila, the Calendar app opened and allowed me to view all my events, past present and future. All while the phone was locked. But, if I ask SIRI "what are my events today," she tells me to unlock my phone first.
This might be worth a feedback report. For a fix, I'm going to ask for a way to weaken security surrounding calendar and reminders. I mean, I'm an adult, I'm aware of the risks, and I want to turn it off. So just give me the option.

Yes indeed, the "today hole" is just silly. It seems clear to me that if you're allowing Today, surely you out to also allow all the stuff that Today gives you access to?
Yeah, I'd get onto Apple about it. Hard to believe this is actually intended behaviour.
Using apps on locked screen
I understand why certain apps won't provide feedback when queried with Siri or when you try to run certain shortcuts that might reference the app on the locked screen.
It would be nice, however, if the user could decide on an app by app basis which apps could be controlled and/or used on the lock screen.

I would like to see such an option for all apps on a case by case basis. For example, it is frustrating that Voice Dream stops reading a book as soon as I lock the phone!
