Hi there to everyone,
I’ve been having a very weird issue happening for quite some time but only noticed it in iOS 18.4. Now whenever I use my Mail app, there are no sounds if emails are coming in but if I individually open each inbox of every male account on the Mail app it will then make a noise. Does anyone know how to fix this as I have tried going into settings and making sure that the relevant notifications are on. Does anyone know if this is an actual bug and has anyone reported it? It’s so frustrating I just wish they would sort this out.
Many thanks, Sajid.

Try this…
Hi,
Try going to settings, notifications, mail, customize notifications, and do the following.
Under BADGE COUNT heading:
Make sure, All Unread Messages, is selected.
Under Accounts heading:
Go into each account under this heading, and enable everything.
Finally, make sure Primary Inbox is set to "off".
Edited to add, "Make sure you go into settings, Sounds & Haptics and select a sound for your incoming mail. By default, this is set to' none'".
HTH.
Thanks very much for that…
Thanks very much for that Brian, unfortunately it hasn’t actually worked so let’s hope that they do fix it but thank you so much for the recommendation nevertheless.
Fetch new data
I'm not experiencing this on my iPhone 15 Pro, but the fact that you hear the new mail sound after opening a mailbox makes me wonder if data is only being fetched then and there, rather than in the background as you'd expect. You can check this by going to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail accounts > Fetch new data, and making sure the settings for your accounts, as well as your fetching schedule, are what you want.

Oh, I did not even think about that. Yeah, if you have it set to fetch, automatic, I think it only fetches when it is plugged in and on Wi-Fi. So that could also limit the alert you get regarding new incoming email.
Thank you so much for your…
Thank you so much for your input to all of you still not working I have tried the methods as given above but I guess I’ll just have to leave it I’m just hoping it gets fixed in some future update but I’ve never had this issue before and to be honest it only got highlighted to me when I thought about it and then I realised that I’ve not had any Sounds since 18.3 well from the early version of iOS 18 that worked fine. I don’t really want to uninstall the app and reinstall it I don’t know if that would really make a difference. Thanks very much anyway I do appreciate the help
Same thing started happening…
Same thing started happening to me when I updated to 18.4. All my settings are as they should be. Is anyone else seeing this who's not on a 15 Pro?
I've been experiencing this
I've been experiencing this for a very, very long time already, even before iOS 18.x. I think I first came across this issue way back in iOS 12 or 13 (maybe even earlier); can't remember when I first noticed this issue since it was very, very long time ago.
I Just Don't Get it, Man
iPhone 15 Pro Max. Email notifications always cause my phone to play the default Mail ding chime.
You have checked:
Nope, think that's everything …
You could try a dance to the rain Gods. Maybe that would help?
Oh wow that was so…
Oh wow that was so comprehensive but in the end I decided to be a bit drastic deleted the Mail app reinstalled it and then I went to the primary in Box in settings and Mail and switched it on and touchwood since then it’s been working but thank you very much for everyone’s input. I’m just sorry to hear that it’s not working for others.
