No bible quote when I clicked on the site. It was just a standard website for smart glasses. I think I'll wait for the Meta-ReyBans to get better. Hopefully they'll have scene descriptions as I'm walking along. The EchoVision are a bit expensive.

From the web site: presale price is 449 usd listing price is 599 usd

Considering the pre-order price is only a little more than the Meta Ray-bans and these are specialist tech I'd say that's not expensive. I can't see anything about a subscription either - it says future updates are free.

They seem to have come a bit out of the blue, though. If they are legit then I'd like to know more at least.

Yeah, and I like the scene description like the seleste glasses. But the Meta Ray-bans are still cheaper at £299. The EchoVision are still more appealing than the Seleste because they don't seem to have a monthly subscription. I'll be watching this space closely.

Is that the website offers too little info. How's anyone supposed to decide whether or not to preorder based on this much info? At least if there were some demo...

The details seem a bit sparse? I am especially both surprised and skeptical of no mention of a subscription. Only the big guys like Meta can afford to run these big server farms that power the LLMs without a direct cash infusion.
Also, being a bit picky here: the FAQ page can't decide if they're shipping in Q2 2024 (already passed) or sometime in 2025. Clear communication is important for trying to crowdsource a new product like this.

As nice as this product sounds, I do have concerns.
They have a lot of potential, but how do we know they won't start making promises they can't keep? A lot of companies that make blindness specific products tend to do this.
Look at Seleste. If you remember when people first started hearing about them, one of their major selling points was hardware upgrades.
Within the past month or so, users of the glasses were notified that hardware upgrades won't be coming.
I've used Agiga's WhatsApp calling service with the Meta glasses, and it works well.
Depending on the operating system powering this product, the potential to access the most popular apps hands free would be nice.
I have the Envision Glasses since they were purchased for me by the state, and although they're good at what they do, the problem is that they're running on hardware that isn't officially supported by the manufacturer.
Envision says they have a lot of units in stock, but how much is a lot? What happens when devices start having hardware issues?
When people are spending up to $3500 on a product, those are things that need to be taken into consideration.
Finally, a question. Do the glasses have the ability to constantly look for things like the Seleste glasses?
Example, I want it to read room numbers as I walk along a hallway.
Edit, I forgot to mention subscriptions.
While nothing is saying they will do a subscription, I know it's a possibility.
Since I received my Envision Glasses before they started the subscription plans, all I had to do was request the purchase invoice from the state and send my glasses serial number and they activated the lifetime subscription.
Agiga could choose to do something similar if they decide to make this product subscription based, but we don't know when or if that will happen.

I liked the interview.
I'm considering pre-ordering them next week when I get paid. I had to shell out a bunch of money for an expense this week so I have to be careful until next Wednesday.
It's nice that people who pre-order won't have to worry about the subscription and that it won't be required to access the basic functions.

I don't think maps are a thing they want to add to the glasses but i sent them a message asking so we'll see what they say.

There were some issues though. 1. Their email sent back an error email so I had to use their form.

2. Their form didn't refresh when I sent the message, there was a thanks message at the bottom of the page, I only found it because I know how websites work in t that way, and my info was still filled in, which shouldn't happen.

I don't think these are for me but for those buying these, have fun :)

I wonder what happened to them...

The guy was nice enough to give me a refund but did want me to ship another pare of glasses to another house in the UK, he was willing to pay the costs but I told him no. That was a really bad thing to ask a user of your product, if he offered to pay me I might have thought about it but he was just willing to pay the shipping costs.

Also I opened the box,, I think it was my pare that had been sent to me, and the speaker design was just bad, you had one speaker on one arm and the other had to be atached, I think, and there was no app. You had to wait for a testflight invite.

I'm sure the guy had/has good intentions and if they come to site village next year, i'll check them out again but I highly doubt I'd buy from them again.

It'd have been more, let's say, convincing if it were an actual demonstration and not an interview...

So, the Meta smart glasses has this adaptive volume feature, where if you are in a noisy environment, the volume will auto adjust to accommodate. Maybe these glasses can incorporate something like that as well?

I'm thinking of pre-ordering.
They have a lot of features that my metas don't.
The people description and face recognition are great features.
I also like the idea of live scene description.
OCR would be useful to me as well.
They aren't perfect, but the developer seems to be receptive to feedback from the community, and the price is reasonable when compared to other blindness products.
There is a 30 day refund policy so if they go the way my celeste disaster turned out, I can send them back.
In any case, we have options to choose from with a lot of potential that aren't thousands of dollars.

I'm not usually one to take chances on products like this, but the recent videos have convinced me. Loving the demos of facial recognition, OCR, and live scene detection. More than that, I love how you can get all of these things by simply pressing a button, and not just by voice. My Metas are still sticking around for their excellent video quality, as well as for WhatsApp and Messenger calls to family, but I'm seriously hoping these live up to what they're promising.
I've contacted the company with a few questions and have received replies back, some of which even asked for my opinions, so I feel that Agiga really is listening.

I just got the meta glasses. Sounds like maybe I should have waited for these instead? I guess that's just the way things go. I'll be following how these go. Maybe it'll be worth saving up for them at some point in the future?

One possible reason many of us are hesitating on this, is how often blindness-specific glasses seem to fail. There were the Aira glasses, and then much more recently, Celeste. If these are released, and I can read honest reviews for things like sound and camera quality, then I might consider it.

I agree with the above, but I think there are a number of reasons.

A lot of us have gone with the Meta Ray-bans. I've had mine just over a year but feel it would be. a touch indulgent to ditch them for the next big thing just yet, particularly as they now seem to be going in quite a nice direction. I guess I also think it won't be long before Apple enters the market.

It's hard for a specialist company to compete. The Echo Vision aren't crazy expensive for specialist glasses, but they are more than the Meta Ray-bans and will have a subscription. They are also not available at all outside the US, so I can't say I am personally going to pay much attention until they have been announced as coming to the UK.

I think specialist companies are in a bit of a chicken and egg situation. Without traction it is hard for them to gain traction. I actually thought the demo on Double Tap of the Celeste was amazing.

My own expectation is to stick with the Metas until the Apple version comes along and then it will be time to make a decision. I feel uncomfortable paying a subscription for hardware that I have had to pay good money for. I made an exception with Glide.

Similarly a lot of these companies expect you to put faith in them at a very early stage. I don't like being asked to fork out on something based on the promise of what might come. Again I made the exception with Glide but I don't particularly like being asked to make a leap of faith without knowing more about what I am getting into.

There also seems to be a lot of this sort of thing being announced. Don't get me wrong, glasses are perfect as an accessibility tool so I follow all of them with interest. But I am not going to buy everything that sounds amazing before even being released anywhere.

I am interested in them, though and will keep an eye on how things progress. Hopefully we will have the perfect solution soon that balances cost with a design specifically for us. But if Apple come along and suddenly I'm able to use all my free iPhone apps with the glasses, then I'm afraid specialist tech is unlikely to get a look in.

If these glasses can match that price, then I am sold.

I am also interested in these, at leats to follow what others say about them.

If anyone is capable of giving a thorough and detailed critical review of a product, I believe it is you. Hope you don't take that as an insult, as it was not meant to be one.

I follow these on their FaceBook group. There is a guy there who runs the Above The Fold podcast. The episode planned for today was cancelled, because the developer identified an issue with the glasses' microphone. They sent a statement that said that shipping would be delayed.

They didn't post that statement on their own FB group, and frankly, the communications on these has been quite bad throughout.

Between this, and their refusal to ship outside the US, I have made the decision, and have preoodered the Envision Solos glasses to try.
I hope these succeed, but I don't like what I'm seeing so far regarding communication and how that will translate to customer service. ,

Yes, I enjoy my Meta's. Quite a bit as of some of the more recent updates, but these sound fascinating. 🙂

Hi all,
Does anyone know if these glasses will allow you to make phone calls and listen to music? I have been using my Ray Ban Metas for over a year now, and now i am finding them to be a little bit of a hassle to use. Name for ocr and getting good descriptions of things. I am eager to get out of the Meta ecosystem system. I am not pleased with Many of metas business practices and political leanings. I was always uncomfortable with the idea of having to have a social media account to use these glasses. I cancelled my facebook account a long time ago, and I plan on deleting the Instagram account I had to make to use these glasses. The Metas are cool and they are a good device , they are now more of a novelty item for me as opposed to a tool that I can rely on exclusively.
Is anyone else in the same situation or similar?

The issue with such companies basically is that they're focussing on too many things at one go, kind of biting off more than what they can chew: developing an interface/software/operating system/whatever that's blind-specific? doable and sensible. developing hardware specific to that (by a small company/team)? Well, is never a hundred percent success. and making it at a low cost? well, a very, very hard sell. That's probably what happened to celest, and that's what is happening here. And that's kind of where I trust the Envision model, kind of: they're collaborating with a company that's already been in the smart-glasses industry for quite sometime, and is been a direct competitor to the metas and the like. That way, the bigger problem of the hardware including the cost, is taken care of. Now, if they can provide a quality experience that's feature-rich, I believe it could work.

Envision seems to be working with the same principle as Tim Cook, that is to say, do whatever it takes for the bottom line. So if that means building a wearable camera that connects via Bluetooth and calling it—"smart"—then so be it.
As for the EchoVision, I am definitely looking forward to hearing some real world use cases.

Guess I'll believe it when I see it, so far, I've not been impressed with all these blindy company copycats trying to release something with flimsy hardware that does not work and half the time when they do, very poor! Also, having us have to pay more to get access to what we need. I've lost my trust with all this and I'll stick to my existing metas thank you very much. I'm sorry if I sound harsh but we've seen this time and time again with different glasses and tech products that claim to be made for us and yet do not work half the time. You do know that real world demo videos stuff can be edited as well yall realize that right? Not saying that the youtube channel in question is doing that but again, I'll believe it when I see it. Think it's time we take these companies for what they are and hold em accountable. Scam Lol. Na, just kidding but you know where I'm going with this. If a company claims that a product does what it's suppose to do but you find out that it don't do what it said on the box as well as it says then somethings gotta give here and that, my friends is false advertising. Something of which access companies love to do. I hope I'm wrong about these glasses but I ain't holding my breath.

Every body is going to have their own perceptions and experiences, and even biases as to what they personally consider good tech over bad. I know I will never be able to, for example, convince Ash Rein how wonderful the Meta smart glasses are (for me). And I am not even trying to. They have obviously had a really unpleasant experience using them, and have decided the Meta glasses are not for them.
That is fair and understandable.

However, the Meta glasses have been amazing for me, and thus I will continue to use, and enjoy them. I get so much done with this device that I wonder how I ever lived without it. Again, my experiences have colored my perception and bias towards the Meta glasses in a positive way.

I won't list everything I have been able to do successfully with my Meta glasses because this rant would just go on, and on, and on... I will reiterate that I am happy with my pair and get quite a lot of independence out of using them. 🤷

Just work. At least 70% of the time. That's much higher than what any of these blindness-specific companies have been able to demonstrate so far. They do that at half the price of any blindness-specific product of a similar nature that has been offered so far. 2 good enough reasons to convince me. I'll leave it at that.

Subject line mostly says it all. I've got the Ally Solos glasses, and, perhaps rather foolishly, got some Gen 2 Meta glasses because I was able to get them with extremely low monthly payments, and even though I wasn't keen on them the first time around, they were still able to do more than the Ally glasses are currently capable of, which, as Ash has pointed out, isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

Now, I'm starting to think I should have skipped them both and held out for these Echovision glasses. I haven't heard as much about them as a lot of you seem to have, though, and delivery dates being delayed kind-a makes me think of Glideance. When the Echovision glasses are officially reality, I will certainly look forward to hearing demos, and if they somehow ever have a reasonable payment plan or something, maybe I'll add them to my collection, although I feel as though having 3 pairs of smart glasses would be more than a little ridiculous.

I think you're absolutely right, Ash. Given that I've already spent way more than I ever wanted to on smart glasses, I'll probably try to resist the Echovision temptation and make do with what I already have until Apple releases smart glasses. Hopefully, they'll be much more affordable than that Applevision pro thing; I had 0 temptation to even think about that. I'm sure Google glasses will be seriiously awesome too, but since I'm exclusively in the apple ecosystem, waiting to find out what they come up with would probably be my best move.

No matter what comes out, in the end, we will all probably be using Apple glasses; or even the android glasses when they come out. Ally, echo vision, meta are just stepping stones. They are just something to tide us over until the real things we want are released.
