At the end of each month, the AppleVis Editorial Team take a look at all of the apps that have been posted to the site during that month - either for the first time, or where there has been a significant update - and decide which of these we think is the most noteworthy.
Our pick for October wasn’t released until the very last day of the month, so only just scraped onto the bottom of our list of contenders. However, considering the level of anticipation which had preceded its release and the extremely positive response that greeted its arrival in the App Store, it should be no surprise that it immediately went to the top of our lists.
If you haven’t guessed already, our pick of the month for October is Papa Sangre II. This much anticipated follow-up to the Papa Sangre game from 2010 is the third audio only game release from Somethin’ Else, and already appears to be following in the footsteps of the two previous games by becoming an instant hit with blind iOS gamers.
Papa Sangre II is a horror game that takes as its starting point a macabre concept: your own death. The player’s goal is to return to the land of the living by exploring an immersive story-world, collecting memories of dead souls to get back to the other side.
If you do manage to return to the land of the living, one of the first things that you might want to do is to find out what you have missed. And, that’s where our second pick for October could come in handy - accessibility improvements made to Tweetlogix for Twitter over recent updates now make it a viable alternative to TweetList or Twitterrific for those who are looking for a full-featured Twitter client.
We particularly like the ability to use a list or saved search as your main timeline. We also like the filtering and muting options, multiple account support, a powerful search and nice handling of conversations and replies. The only major feature that it’s missing right now, and one that might prevent it from replacing TweetList or Twitterrific as our first choice Twitter app, is the lack of support for push notifications.
Our third and final pick for October is MUDRammer - A Modern MUD Client.
If you aren’t familiar, MUDs are online multiplayer text-based games. There are thousands, set in fantasy, medieval, Sci-Fi, absurdist, and many other worlds. MUDRammer has become the default choice for many blind gamers wishing to access these games on their iOS devices, due in no small part to the repeated commitment of its developer to ensure that it is fully accessible with VoiceOver.
