Gemini vs Assistant: How deep does the rabbit hole go?

AI is becoming such a trendy hot topic these days, that you can't go five minutes without reading, or hearing, somebody mentioned something about AI. I think it started out with "personal assistants". I'm honestly not sure who came out with what first, but at some point Apple came out with Siri, and Google came out with Google Assistant. These are not really AI, in any sense of the term, but I know for a while that is what they were called; AI, AI assistant, personal assistant, etc., etc. I actually like the Google Assistant app for iOS, I will sometimes use as a "back up", when Siri decides to take a nose dive into forget-me-not land.
I am aware that Google Gemini is now available on the newer Android devices, and that Android users have the benefit of replacing their Google Assistant with Google Gemini ... but how well does Gemini work in comparison to other third-party AI apps that are out there? How much can users get out of the Gemini that is built into the latest Androids? How does it compare to Apple Intelligence?
