Hi,
Have any of you managed to add the brief description to their action button after the latest speakaboo update? I'm baffled in the shortcut app it shows as being there. However, when in the action button settings under shortcuts it doesn't show up. Am I missing something?

The fix
So, no you are not missing anything. There is a weird glitch with a shortcut, but it is fixable. This is what I did, and if anybody on here has a more streamlined way of doing this, feel free to communicate that here.
1. Open Shortcuts, then tap the top left corner that should be a button labeled shortcuts, back button.
2. This should display all of your shortcuts in a nice list sorted alphabetically by application. Scroll down all the way until you find "Speakaboo", double tap on that.
3. On this screen, there are a few things that need to be done. First, double tap the info button, about a swipe or two pass the back button in the top left corner, double tap on info, then enable Siri. Back out of this screen once finished. Next, swipe to the right until you find the actual shortcuts, you will see if there is a listing for three of them, rather than two. They will be displayed like this:
"Open Speakaboo".
"Open Speakaboo (1 action)".
"Quick Describe with Speakaboo".
You will note that last shortcut does not mention the number of actions. This is the issue.
Triple tap on that shortcut, or double tap and hold, and then tap new shortcut. This will actually open the quick described shortcut. Double tap on the options, and then double tap on dismiss. Finally, double tap on done. I am not sure why this worked, but once you do this, The shortcuts will rearrange, and you will have the following.
"Open Speakaboo".
"Quick Describe with Speakaboo".
"Open Speakaboo (1 action)".
"Quick Describe with Speakaboo (1 action)".
At this point, you can add this shortcut to a gesture or the action button.
HTH.
Thanks
Great that worked. Never really worked with shortcuts so that would have baffled me forever.
No worries
Shortcuts used to actually be a lot easier to use with voiceover. Nowadays, it's kind of hit or miss. To be fair, I figured this fix out on accident, I just playing around with the shortcut and then discovering the added shortcut with an action count added to it. Once I noticed that, I went to VoiceOver/commands, and assigned a touch gesture to it., That seemed to fix it so there you go. Lol
Wow, that worked great, thanks
Thanks for that shortcut tip. I have no idea why it worked, but it did. I assigned it to my action button, and I love that I can get a description in almost the time it takes me to point the phone.
Many thanks.
Shortcuts
Are so completely and utterly broken with regards to VoiceOver users, that is why that worked.
True story. 🫡
