Hello everyone. I'm new here. I am looking for advice and help with looking for a new windows 11 Laptop. I've had my Dell laptop since 2013 with windows 10, which is old to support a upgrade to windows 11. I use NVDA as my primary screen-reader. I'm looking for a model that's lightweight and small and that's not in the pricey. But I'm not sure of which brand to go with. I've been told that Lenovo and Horsepower are good models to try out. I would like to find something is lower than 200 or 100 dollars no higher thatn that. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's what co-pilot says: Copilot said
Finding a basic Lenovo laptop under $200 is definitely possible! Here are a few options that might fit the bill:
1.
Lenovo IdeaPad 1: This is a popular choice for budget-conscious buyers. It's a basic laptop that's great for everyday tasks like browsing the web, checking emails, and light productivity work.

I didn't include the rest because they were cromebooks.

Keep in mind this laptop is going to be very basic, it'll probably only have 4 gigs of ram and a 500 gb hd hard drive, if you're ok with that, i'd recommend looking up the moddle on amazon.

You're not going to get anything good for $100-$200, unless it's a shitty Intel Celeron or Chromebook or another low-power e-waste computer. Unless it was an error when typing?

You really do not want to run Windows 11 on anything less than 8 GB of RAM.

OP, if you tell us more about what you want to use the computer for, we might be able to help you a bit more.

Hey there,
I've read Brian talking about his machine in a few posts now, and sounds like he got a fantastic machine. So you very well could go with one of those, and I'm sure it will be great. Or, if your budget will not allow, another option would be to buy a used business class laptop. A lot of the time, build quality on these will be a lot better than what is put out there on the low end of consumer laptops. So, while it may not be brand new, and you won't get the nice unboxing experience, build quality and specs would be a lot better than what you could get new for a similar price. So, you would just need to do a bit of research to make sure whatever processor is compatible with Windows 11. I forget the prices, but remember seeing some pretty good deals on the Elitebooks from HP.

Yes here in the UK I accidentally found a company called gadget centre. They build from scratch old laptops. As a result I managed to pick up a 16g intel i7 500g windows 11 laptop for £305. During Black Friday weekend the cheapest with those spect I found on Amazon was £449.

Suggest you wait for black Friday before Christmas for great deals on it. I am sure amazon will have them and you could get a nice one that normally would be to expensive for you.

Thanks for the links everyone. I appreciate it. To clear up the misunderstanding about what I'm looking for in a new laptop, I'm leaning towards a basic laptop for web browsing, emailing, and game playing for at home use. Not for bizness use. More for recreational purposes only. Thanks for the links.

You won't find anything better, for the price, then Computers for the Blind. I had forgotten all about these guys. They're offerings seem to have improved over the years, however, as I remember they used to offer cheap laptop starting around $100, and came pre-installed with NVDA. Now it looks like you get a year license of the latest JAWS. Not bad for the overall price!

So I got a legit high end chromebook on sale for $330, it's built arguably better than my ridiculous windows gaming laptop and does 90 percent of what I use on a computer almost as well as Windows. It's even better on the web sometimes, not as many keystrokes to bail you out of trouble but it's stable and accessible enough I rarely need them. If I wasn't messing around with on device AI stuff and my windows games it could honestly be my only computer and I'd just be missing out on a few little things. It legit handles gmail, google docs and most web browsing as well as and often better than my windows machine with a much beefier processor, depending on what you use your machine for it might be worth a look, especially used.

I am thinking of getting one of those highbrid chromebooks, tablet plus detachable keyboard. Might save some money as well. Should be perfect for web browsing and emails. I am thinking of using it's tablet capabilities as a screen to controle media for my music system, and keyboard always comes in handy if I need to browse some website in detail, or just use it as a stand to prop up the tablet.

I mean if you just want a laptop for the usual suspects, surfing the web, check in email, chatting with friends, social media, basic media consumption (excluding gaming), then yeah I think a Chromebook would do you well. Especially today's Chromebook. As stated above, those things are beasts. Not to mention a Chromebook is easy Peezy lemon squeezy to set up.

Hi all. I've had recent experience with Computers fortheir Blind, or CFTB, in the last year. I won a CFTB laptop from one of the blindness inrganization conventions in 2023. I gradually learned from use of the laptop and after talking with their staff that they often get laptops from business laptop extras. In other words, they now have good quality laptops that can stand up. Perhaps they didn't always, but they do now. This is before the extensive process every computer goes through to help make it usable and accessible. If you are strapped for cash or looking for a budget laptop and can't go real high in cost, then CFTB is deffinitely worth a look. Speaking with some bias, they also offer training for everyone who buys laptops and PC's from them. However, the training is not what I would say as complete.

I would have to agree. Like I said above, they used to offer really, really cheap laptops with a preinstall of NVDA. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love NVDA, but the laptops themselves that they used to provide were really, really pitiful.
Now it looks like they have offering such as Microsoft Office, and the latest jaws. All of that for $250. That is a really, really amazing deal.
