Hello all. I'm wondering if anybody is currently having issues typing on their iPhone, or if this is just a setting which I inadvertently changed. This has been happening on my iPhone 14 for a few days now. Dictation is working great, but there's another free app in the App store which I'm trying to search for and dictation isn't quite working for that purpose. The app in question is UniD, which is the app for the Unidescription project found at http://www.unidescription.org . If this is a setting which I've overlooked, I can locate it easily but it just seems like there are so many settings on these things nowadays that it can get a bit overwhelming. But I know that Apple is still as committed to accessibility as they always were. Tia for anyone's assistance with this, and make it a great day.

I'm not having issues typing, but it might be worth looking over your settings just to be safe. Hope you get it figured out, whatever it is. I mostly use BSI and that is fantastic, especially since the release of iOS 18.
Some recommendations

Try going to settings, general, keyboard, and disabling the following:
1. AutoCorrect.
2. Predictive text.
3. Smart quotes.
4. Smart punctuation.
5. Slide to type.
6. Auto punctuation.
Don't question it. Just disable all of these, and of course make sure dictation is enabled, and see how your dictation works on the App Store, and various other edit fields.

Ah, especially that slide to type, I imagine that could make things harder with Voiceover. I keep everything else on, but very rarely do I type on the normal keyboard, as I pretty much always use BSI.
Re: slide to type
There are actually two places where slide to type has a toggle switch. One is keyboard settings, and one is VoiceOver settings, under the rotor category. The keyboard version, is for people not using VoiceOver. Unfortunately, it can be interacted with while voiceover is active, and somebody is typing on the keyboard, especially if they are doing touch typing, or split tap typing. Something about the way it is programmed into the keyboard, plus VoiceOver being active, can cause it to do, wonky, things while dictating. Two other culprits are smart quotations, and smart punctuation. Both work whether physically typing, or using dictation, and both can break your typing flow.
Finally, AutoCorrect and predictive text kind of go hand-in-hand, as being a pain in the neck when it comes to words appearing, that you never dictated nor typed.
