Hi everyone. I finally upgraded my 2014 Mac Mini to the m4 Mac Mini. I've waited for this for so long! I set it up, and at first everything seemed fine, but I soon noticed a problem. As I move around between elements, I hear a "Bong...bong" sound. The second "Bong" has a higher pitch. I especially notice it when moving into and out of text fields, but I notice it in other places as well. I completely reset my VoiceOver settings, but the problem remained. Also, after a while I start noticing a major lag in the Messages app. I made sure to plug in a video adapter, in case the Mac Mini required it, but that didn't change anything. Does anyone have any clues as to the problem? Thanks. Great to see Applevis continuing!

Couple of thoughts: Could…
Couple of thoughts:
Could caps lock be on?
Also, might be worth checking for system notifications/alerts:
VO fn f1 twice and brings up all running apps with any break out windows. Check these for anything you need to act on or dismiss.
VO O to bring up notification centre and check through those.
Reboot, if you've not already.
If possible, unpair and repair your keyboard.
I'm hoping one of these helps. I can't imagine it would be specific to M4 mini so hopefully others have similar experiences and can assist.
Weird sounds
In the past when I’ve had weird sounds it’s been because of a system dialog which I think Ollie covered above. One other suggestion. If you use VO+H to go to the help menu, I believe there is an option Sounds. If you go there you can hear all the different sounds and what they mean. So you might be able to find out what the sound is trying to tell you in there.
Recording
Perhaps if you add a recording for the strange sounds we may be better able to help.
One other thought
I remember a while ago I had accidentally managed to set the start dictation keyboard shortcut to something like VO+right or something, so when I was using my Mac I kept hearing this weird noise all the time and it took me ages to figure out what it was. I think this happened because the keyboard settings would update the keyboard shortcut as you were just navigating around - ie you'd give focus to the dictation shortcut then use VO+right to move out but it would updated the shortcut instead. I don't know if it still does this. Anyway you could go into System Settings and have a look at the keyboard shortcuts.
I did wonder if this could be single key nav turning itself on and off as it passes through text boxes and the like. I think this behaviour was changed in Sonoma. I don't use single key nav. But you could try VO+q to toggle it and make sure it's off. I don't know if it makes a noise when it does this so this is just a random guess.
