Never used this but have you double checked that Bluetooth is set to car speaker? Go to settings, Bluetooth find the name of the car and double tap more info by swiping down once. in there you can choose what output there is for VO. One option is car speaker. Another is external speaker but I'm guessing for carplay car speaker is what you need. That is a guess though.
