feedback to Apple about writing tools issues when using the summarizing function

Hi folks,

As we all know, the new features Apple’s intelligence has to offer are game-changing. However, we’ve encountered a few issues with the summarizing functions and the unavailability of writing tools in some apps when using VoiceOver. Here’s the feedback I’ve prepared—it's important to submit feedback about these issues as we encounter them. We’ve seen many examples where Apple has addressed our concerns through feedback, either via accessibility@apple.com or the Feedback Assistant app included in beta software.

Below is the feedback. Please send a similar one if you’re experiencing the same issues:

Hello,

I recently updated my iPhone 15 Pro Max to iOS 18.1 (public version). One of the main features of this update is Apple Intelligence, which includes a summarizing function. However, when this feature is used to summarize an email—by pressing the summarize button at the top—or to summarize selected text using the writing tools, VoiceOver cannot read the summary. Instead, it only says "Loading," even though the summary is visible on the screen.

A workaround is to use Screen Recognition to read the summary, but this isn’t ideal for blind users, as it causes some lag and responsiveness issues. Additionally, when selecting text in the text-editing field, I cannot find the writing tools by using haptic touch to access the menu. Options like Copy, Share, and Research appear, but no writing tools. This menu is also unavailable on the VoiceOver edit rotor. However, in default apps like Mail, Notes, and Messages, we can easily find these tools.

I would really appreciate it if these issues could be addressed in an 18.1.1 update, as this is one of the key features of the new software update. Please don’t make us wait until 18.2, which won’t be available until December. iOS should be as accessible to us as it is to everyone else.

We all need to send this off. I for one will be doing this. Don't forget to use your current phone model when drafting this.

Please note that this text is just a draft, sending the exact same e-mail may result in them thinking it's a spam. So feel free to submit a similar one to this but pay attention not the e-mail to be the same.

Use Apple Intelligence to rewrite the note to Apple and they will never know! 😁

Yes that's true. The reason we'd like more people to report these bugs is they would give priority to the issues and potentially fix it sooner than later.
