How have you customised your lock screen on iOS 18?

Hi,
Just wondering, since the new iOS 18, how have you customised your lock screen? I've removed the torch and kept the camera, but I'm at a loss as to what else I could add. I accidentally added a weather wallpaper which I hated then removed, so I definitely don't want weather stuff on there. I don't want certain timers or anything because I just tell Siri to set timers for me anyway, but what else do you guys have on your lock screens? Just curious. Can I add apps there? I was thinking about adding Seeing AI, but I couldn't find that option anywhere. I thought about creating a shortcut, but I looked under shortcuts and it said it couldn't open apps from the lock screen or something. So, any suggestions?
Thanks.

I removed the flashlight and camera, and then added current weather conditions.

I removed flashlight and should probably remove camera. I added scan code, which makes it easy to scan a QR code.

Maybe I'll add that one. I did see that somewhere as one of the options, but I never need to scan QR codes, so we'll see.

I was trying to put Be My Eyes on the locked screen for quick and easy access to the service. I didn't see that in the list though.

Maybe the Be My Eyes team has to enable that. Hoepfully some day.

Hi Peter, I put Be my Eyes on the lock screen. You can find it in the list under Shortcuts and Open App.

I'll try that for Seeing AI or maybe even Be My Eyes. I thought the shortcuts thing didn't work on the lock screen.

I'd love a Be My Eyes quick action that, with one single double-tap, describes what it sees using Be My AI.

What I don't want is something that merely launches the app, requires me to select Be My AI if it's not already selected, and requires me to snap a picture. That's three steps. I would want a one-step solution.

The Ring app has a lock screen quick action, and it's a perfect example of what I don't want. All it does is launch the app. I still have to swipe through to find my doorbell, select it, and swipe through yet more controls to find live mode and select it. What I want is a quick action that I select and it takes me directly to my doorbell in live mode.

I recently wrote Be my Eyes and suggested adding a quick action for Be my AI, since there is already a quick action for calling a volunteer.

Hello, the devs would have to put actions like that in to intigrate with shortcuts. Otherwise ain't no way you can get around that quicker Lol. I do to would like that they add this soon because that would be totally handy for me as I had a few ideas to work with my shortcuts but I can't do what I wanna do just yet.

I fiddled around with my lock screen some more and I think I've came up with a final solution.

Widgets: I have a couple on my iPad and never use them, so no widgets on my iPhone lock screen.

Quick actions: I replaced flashlight and camera with Code Scan and Silent Mode.

Action Button: With Silent Mode as a lock screen quick action, I configured my action button to record voice memos.

Siri will continue to suck on older models that do not support Apple Intelligence so I just added a widget to start a chat with ChatGPT right from the lock screen.

The SE model iPhones are a little different than the ā€œnon-home buttonā€ models. I do not have a flashlight or camera button at the bottom, I do, however, have the ability to access the camera by doing a page swipe (3 fingers left or right). I do have three widgets and a wallpaper, however. The widgets I have are the date, the clock, and a weather conditions widget, which basically just gives me the current weather. My Lock Screen and home screen wallpapers are the same, which is the solar system.

Fun fact, on the date widget, it actually has its own Clock on it, although voiceover does not find it by swiping, you can only find it with voiceover by explore by touch. If you put your finger on the date and very slightly move up or you will find the other clock. It is kind of interesting. So, from a visual perspective, I have two clocks on my lock screen. Lol.

Quick note and live recognition for me. I've found that live recognition is pretty good for text etc and have stopped using seeing ai.

I did try to have reminders on there but it seems that live regions with a lot of data bamboozle voiceover and getting through items becomes a bit gummy.

Still not found a killer purpose for my action button. until it allows for multiple actions, single click, double click, tripple click and long hold, it's too restrictive. I do like the idea of a voice recorder. I might create a speech to text shortcut actually for random thoughts. I created a shortcut that gathers my journal entries from the week, passes them through open AI and sends me an email of the summary and adds actionable items to my reminders... Bit of a humble brag there.

Iā€™ve added the temperature reading for the Weather Mate app to the lock scream and took the torch off since Iā€™ve accidentally hit it before. I donā€™t need a lot but like to Know battery percentage and temperature.

Good call, Ollie. I added Quick Note to control center.

So I managed to add Seeing AI to my lock screen now. Thanks for the suggestions. The shortcuts thing worked after all.

I had already added the Turkish clock along with the US clock in a previous version. I removed the flashlight and camera in this one. Does any on know if we can add alternative calendars to our lockscreen?

By Enes Deniz on Friday, October 11, 2024 - 20:42

You can have the Hijri date displayed along with the Gregorian one, possibly as well as other stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion about going to Shortcuts to add Be My Eyes.

Interestingly, I didn't see all of the shortcuts there that I had listed in the Shortcusts app.

although I did manage to find the Be My eyes "Call a volunteer" shortcut, I didn't see the Be My Eyes "Ask Question" shortcut listed which I do see listed in the shortcuts app. I would prefer to have had the "Ask Question" shortcut appear on the locked screen rather than the "Ask a bolunteer".

don't know if I'm missing something or if some shortcuts available in the Shortcuts app just aren't available to be put on the locked screen.

Anyway, thanks. This suggestion was very helpful.

Does anyone know if I can add message on the lock screen?

By Ali Colak on Friday, October 11, 2024 - 20:42

I can't see the date box when I'm trying to customise my lockscreen. I only see the clock widget. Any ideas why this might bee?

Is Scan Code an app? I like that idea on the Lock Screen.

By Brian on Monday, November 4, 2024 - 20:42

Yes and no. It technically is an app, however it is dedicated to the control center. I do believe, however, that you can have a scan code shortcut set up on your lock screen. That would, essentially, do the same thing you're after.

I wanted to add the verse of the day from the Youversion Bible app, but it doesn't show up. Thought it would be pretty awesome to have that on my lock screen at all times. Seems they have a widget you can add to your home screen, but not the lock screen. No idea why.

Hi,

I am currently running an iPhone SE3, with iOS 18.1. We can customize our lock screen, a little bit. However, we do not get the benefit of the bottom of the screen shortcuts like flashlight and/or camera.
We do have access to the camera on the lock screen, of course, it's just a three finger swipe from right to left while on the Lock Screen. We can also access the flashlight, by accessing the control center from the Lock Screen.
Having said all of that, we can still choose a new wallpaper, and add up to three widgets on our Lock Screen. I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but on my iPhone, I have a date widget, a Clock widget, and a weather widget.

Yes, I think it's good to change the applications on the lock screen on iOS 18. I changed the lock screen according to the focus. I removed the camera in everyday mode and added the Moovit application. Because public transportation is important to me. On the other hand, I created a prayer focus that activates in mosques where all notifications are muted and no calls are heard. Only the call to prayer times will be seen here on the lock screen.

Widgets: Calendar for date, clock for time and next alarm, 4 small whether widgets showing current temp precipitation, wind-speed and Air quality.
Wallpaper: Earth detailed wallpaper. I love things about space, and, this wallpaper shows my part of earth in different lighting conditions as it passes under the sun. It's high contrast at the top, where I want, and colorful where I can do with less contrast.
Shortcuts: Speekaboo and Scan code.
My action key is set to launching camera, but, I might think of putting it to a better use as lockscreen left-swipe does open camera.

Is there a 1 tap Be My Eyes shortcut which just describe the things by activating 1 shortcut?
As far as I know, you got to press the app icon, then click the take picture button.
If there's a quicker shortcut, Please let me know.
