I was forced to upgrade to iOS 18 when I switched to a new phone. I have lost almost all of my sounds. I looked in sounds and haptics, and it seems to show that the sounds are there. I tried choosing not to play haptics at all, which caused nothing to play sounds or haptics. Then I put haptics back for everything. I don’t even get the sound when I’ve tried to dictate in an edit field. What happened?

Check Control Centre
If you check control centre, is the mute toggle turned on?
If it's off, a restart of the phone might fix the issue. Otherwise, you might have to restore from a backup again.
thanks, but
A swipe down from the right edge of the screen brings up notification center, not control center. How do you get into control center? Thanks for the suggestion.
Control Center
To reveal the Control Center, either place one finger on the status bar and swipe up with three fingers, or, on iPhones without a Home button, you can alternatively place one finger on the top edge of the screen and slide it down until you hear a tone; note that continuing to slide passed this tone to the next one will instead reveal notifications.
That sounds like a faulty version of iOS
Usually, when an operating system is missing sounds, that means they are corrupted.
These are just thoughts. I don’t know what your specific situation is, but if no sound at all are playing, your best bet is to do a complete restore using your computer.
Resetting from your phone does not reinstall iOS, it just erases everything and starts over from scratch.
mostly success.
my 12 mini still has a physical toggle switch for ringer versus silence mode. Somehow, it got onto silent mode, so I put it back to ringer. That brought back most of the sounds. The only thing I’m having trouble with now is chime. I reinstalled it, and I can’t get it to except the settings that I put into it. Does anyone know if there is another kind of hourly announce clock available.?
search in appstore
Search for hourly chimes, and you can find loads of them.
