Anyone else having issues with mute on Apple TV with latest TV OS?

I was able to get my hands on an Apple TV HD, but the 2021 model with the updated remote. It's working incredibly well, and I love it. However, while volume control works, the mute button seems to have stopped working at least on my device. Is this happening to anyone else? I don't recall this happening in the first public betas, and don't know for sure when it started, only that the other day when I went to mute the tv, it wouldn't work.

I realize that is probably a silly question, but it has been a long time since I owned an Apple TV device. I ask, however, because on iOS, you can ask Siri to mute volume, and it will mute media volume with spoken feedback confirmation. So voiceover and Siri still work, but media volume is muted.

I am thinking that you can do the same with your Apple TV device. Not necessarily a perfect solution, but a possible workaround.

Just say, “mute volume” and “unmute volume”.

HTH 🙂👍

I have had this issue for quite awhile now, mute button doesn’t seem to work at all with voiceover turned on. If you toggle VoiceOver off you then can use the mute button. That’s my experience anyway.

Thanks everyone for this feedback. Definitely an odd bug, but yes I can confirm on my device as well that if I turn off Voiceover first, then mute works. Again, not sure when this was introduced, because I'm pretty sure it worked right even during the first few public betas.
