Hello friends. I hope this message finds you all doing wonderfully and in good health.

I am curious to know have any of you JAWS users out there ever had any luck with drag and drop? I do not think I have ever managed to get it to work. If you use this feature, can you please let me know what steps you go through to get it to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. For reference, I am using the latest version of JAWS on the most updated version of Windows 10.

Thanks.

This has been one of the most annoying and difficult thing with jaws, I’ve been struggling with it for years now. Good luck friend.

Thanks for your response Brad.

I am trying to drag files from my downloads into our filing system for work. There are other ways to get them into the system, but it is clunky and I was trying to save time by using drag and drop. Thanks for the link though.

I'm assuming copying and pasting doesn't work?

Hi,
I wouldn't use drag and drop for this particular task anyway. It sounds too fiddly for something like this. If you need to select specific files within a folder, press CTRL + Space on the first file in a list, it'll announce 'unselected', then keep holding down the Control + Down Arrow keys to move through the file list, when you get to a file you want to select, just press Spacebar. When you've selected everything you want, just hit CTRL + X then CTRL + V to cut and paste everything to where you want it. Maybe you've tried this already though. CTRL plus Space is a Windows command, so it'll work with whatever screen reader you're using. Whichever way you do it, it'll take a while if the files are big. It sounds like you're moving files between different drives or systems. Unless drag and drop is different in some way and it's really quick somehow? I've never even tried drag and drop with JAWS, it sounds far too complicated. And I think aria has to be enabled by the developer of the apps you're working with for it to work for a screen reader anyway. I managed to get drag and drop to work with NVDA, but that was for a totally different situation. It was moving things from one part of a webpage to another.
