Reading text in another language with voiceover

I’ve been teaching myself German, and I have the German language added to my voiceover Rotor. I’m using the Siri voices for English and for German. I don’t know if that makes a difference one way or the other. I also have language switching turned on, but if I come across German text anywhere, voiceover attempts to read it with the English voice. I have to use the rotor and manually switch it to read it in German. Is this normal or is there a workaround for this?

Generally, unless the text has been coded with the language explicitly, VoiceOver would not be able to detect the German in order to switch to it. Other languages, like Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, etc have a completely different alphabet than the Latin alphabet, so language detection may work better in those cases though not foolproof.
